Who has done the big downsize/upgrade?

Re: Who has done the big downsize/upgrade?

I'm actually planning a big downgrade but the problem is once you live with gear for a long enough time each little piece has its own history. The sentimental value I think makes it hard to part with some other stuff you wouldn't otherwise need or want to.

For example, I have a twelve string acoustic that I've strung with just 6 strings. What I really want is a six string but I got the 12 string years and years ago when I was in high school and I can look at it and remember trying to learn "over the hills and far away" on it. I can't bring myself to part with it even though I don't really have any use for a 12 string. I can't justify buying a regular 6 string acoustic either though because I already have nearly 10 guitars laying around.

I have a 50w plexi clone that I bought years ago for cheap because it's a no-name brand ("Smittytone" apparently) and I open it up to get a look at the guts before I sell it, and find out the whole thing is PTP.

For the price I paid, I'm having a hard time convincing myself I would like the money from selling the amp more than the amp itself right now. I'm converting my valve junior to an 18w marshall clone though so hopefully that will sound good enough that I won't mind selling the big boy.

I really have a lot more gear than I need right now - in an ideal world I could have just one or two electrics, one amp, and a 6 and 12 string acoustic. But, because I'm always like "no no I need single pickup kramer for crazy floyd rose dive bombing" I can never really bear to part with anything. Such is life.

WOW that thing is SWEET! No offense, but what is up with what looks like a credit card on the pick guard?

If you ever need motivation to purge some guitars you should get married and have a baby. I've done both of those things in the last 2 years and man, the baby really makes you get rid of some stuff. But, it's been great cause I just sell all the junk and then use that money to buy something great like my Martin HD 28.

Next up is a real nice Les Paul. Only problem is, with a baby, you can never play. :)
:) Yes got a 3 month old son at home. I got rid of my processor was not using it anyways, I traded it for some nice cables and straps. The other guy got a better deal IMO. I also gave a way an 80W cheapo combo about a year back and using a Fender Mini Twin Amp for bedroom practice. It is much better. I am down to 2 pedals a Bad monkey and a Digi Delay. I am considering getting one of the Tech 21 Character series. Right now I got 2 electrics and 2 acoustics guitars. Out which one Acoustic technically does not belong to me but has been lent to me and the other Acoustic is retired, for home use only..... too rare and vintage cant risk any damage on it

Re: Who has done the big downsize/upgrade?

Beginning of the year, I had 11 axes. Now I have 4 (5 if I count an incoming heritage heh).

Having too many axes just suffocates me. I take too much time to maintain the guitars (the weather here is humid as hell), changing strings, cleaning strings etc etc that in the end I lose motivation to play.
