Who has *the* tone?

Re: Who has *the* tone?

How in God's good name did i forget Dimebag ??? :smack: I LOVE his tone, his solo tone is super smooth, and the rhythm is angry as hell !!

How many of those tones were actually made with the dimebucker and not his original Bill Lawerence pickups?

Re: Who has *the* tone?

The obvious, boring answer would be Gilmour. I always thought Mike Einziger had something cool going on, but that just might be his effects.. And the tone is not something I'm going for these days anyways.

But the previous endorsed, Scott Henderson, man... THAT TONE!

Re: Who has *the* tone?

Not a duncan endorser at the moment.
but... me.
No joke. I love my tone I have right now, and would not trade it for ANYONE's tone.

+1000! I also have and love my own tone,i see these other guys in their 30's and even 40's tryin to get VH's tone and LMFAO! Why? are they thinkin that everyone will react like they did when VH first had that tone?:smack:
I use the DDJ,Jb and C8 and dont care about anyone elses tone:fing2:
if i had to pick a duncan endorser it would be old george lynch with dokken! DDJ all the way! what a screamin pickup!

Haha, I have a Peavey 3120 head and I was surprised by it. Like, a lot. It's very much my tone and I hone it. I would like an OD but I tried a TS-9 and it didnt mesh well with the head. But yeah, I'm happy with my heavy as hell but warm tone that I get from my 3120. ;D

Re: Who has *the* tone?

Does anyone know the difference between the Bill Lawrence USA and the Bill & Becky BL L-500XL pups ??

Re: Who has *the* tone?

Don't know if any of them are Duncan endorsers but here is my list:

Telecaster: Vince Gill
Strat: Me.
Les Paul: Greg Martin

Re: Who has *the* tone?

I pretty much would kill for George Lynch bridge sound and Yngwie Malmsteen neck sound, but that's just me and my preferences.

Re: Who has *the* tone?

I imagine you could get pretty close with a Screamin Demon, YJM, and a cranked Marshall.

I have the screamin' demon and I'm already somewhat close to a Lynch type tone at the bridge since my Rivera does have a british voiced channel that gets close to a Plexi or JCM800, But I have a DiMarzio Chopper in the neck and I bought it before I knew Yngwie had his new signature Fury pickup thru SD. I might do a swap of the neck with a Fury just to check it out.

Oh yeah, always liked the tone on this album:

Duncan Custom.

Still prefer this though, it's probably a JB, and sounds nothing like a JB:

Two of my favorite tones have been the opening chord to the Who's "We won't get fooled again" and the intro clean tone to Green Day's "Waiting"; however, I don't believe either of those were done with Duncans.

Oh yeah. Pete Townshend had some of the most amazing tone ever. I believe that most of Who's Next was recorded with a hollow-body Gretsch and a volume pedal through a Fender tweed amp.
