Re: who here has a variax?

Re: who here has a variax?

classic! :laugh2:

but then, line6 does do a fair bit of copying itself, ask whoever copyrighted the names 'plexi', 'recto' and 'lester' ;)

Re: who here has a variax?

Line 6 will make even more money when they decide to sell the electronics seperately to retrofit into a guitar.

The Variax needs a Nylon String and a couple of metal axes before i'll buy it... it models classic guitars eh? Where are the 80's Kramers, Jackson Soloists, and so on...? Not even a single superstrat in sight!
That's what Workbench is for.

You can put slanted humbuckers in a Strat body with no tone control. :D

A we just talking PAF pickups... or things with comparable power to EMGs, Duncan Distorsions, Duncan JBs, Dimarzio Tone Zone, etc....?
L6 Workbench doesn't have a tremendous selection of pickups. There is some variety though there's not much in the way of aftermarket pups.

Re: who here has a variax?

It would be awesome to be able to use the workbench to put a JB or any other SD pup in your guitar model....*ahem* ( to Seymour and Evan and everyone at SD)

Re: who here has a variax?

^^ that would be nice, but it does detract from the point of buying duncans somewhat :D

what i'd like to see? being able to totally customise the pickups, and being able to hear the results. exact DC resistance? wire guage? magnet type? magnet stagger? series, parallel, bring it on :D

Not by a long shot. Word is that they still haven't recovered the setup costs on their Variax bodies and that's why they decided not to do anything for the V-300.

I think their problem is no one wants to buy an entire guitar for the electronics. I like the idea of a variax, but i think they look ugly as hell. when i heard about Warmoth's variax parts i was pretty excited, because that would have allowed me to make a killer looking strat with all the sounds of a variax. the only problem is, i would have to buy a variax just for the electronics... that isnt something i am interested in, and im guessing not too many other people are either. IMO, Warmoth should work out a deal with Line 6 so that they can sell just the guts of the Variax, and sell their custom bodies designed for those electronics.

Re: who here has a variax?

I haven't read the reply's, but I thought you might find this interesting, even though you don't understand danish:

real media:
http://www.eskildsen.dk/Upload/HtmlArticles/Article1152/VariaxDemo.ram

windows media player streaming:
http://media.eskildsen.dk/eskildsen/Vg88/VariaxDemoMedia9.wmv

it's a 20 minute demonstration clip with the line 6 variax guitar, and even though you don't understand danish I think you can get alot out of it, because you can still understand when he mentions the guitar models, and then you can hear him play.
