Who here is a duncan custom(sh-5) user and expert on it's tone?

Re: Who here is a duncan custom(sh-5) user and expert on it's tone?

Don't put it into a SG or something.

Mine was in a washburn that is closest to an SG. It was awesome for what he wants.
I found the cleans to be pretty good actually. I was in a band with an acoustic, and the cleans were a little more "present"
I dont really know how to describe it, but the acoustic was "soft" and my cleans were "hard" ? not harsh, hard to explain.

I'm no expert but I went from a JB to a C5 because the lows was to lose in the JB and I was HAPPY!!!!

This thread is old enough to start going to kindergarten this year.

A DC is a cool place to start with a pickup because you can do so many magnet changes that sound good in the right context. If the DC is to bright try 250K pots or change to an Alnico II - VIII for a large variety of sounds. At times mine has a bit of Pearly Gates to it. ;)

I am not an expert at anything but I have had lots of SD pickups and the Custom is my favorite hard rock pickup in a Les Paul. Lots of punch and growl.

^^ Interesting, I have one of my Customs in an ash strat and the other in an alder superstrat... I´ve never found the lack of mahogany to be an issue with either....

Personally, I much more prefer the Custom in a 24.75 scale Mahogany axe. IT is still good in other guitars but, not as good, ya dig?

Re: Who here is a duncan custom(sh-5) user and expert on it's tone?

I replaced the DH-1 in my AmDlxHSS Strat with a TB-5 Custom, and was very happy with the tone. The stock Fender DH-1 was not "brimming with beefy tone" as advertised, and was somewhat weak and "too clean" for my taste. Also, the DH-1 was overshadowed by the much more powerful SCN single pickups in the middle and neck positions on this guitar. The TB-5 Duncan Custom solved my problems: it is loud and just a little dirty, but cleans up nicely when you turn down the volume. The Duncan Custom is a good match for the SCN pickups. This is the Pickup that made me a Duncan fan.
