who here just loves their single bridge pickup guitars?

Re: who here just loves their single bridge pickup guitars?

I love me a good high gain strat neck pickup tone and a good fat neck humbucker sound, but when it comes down to the bizness of just rockin' out, nothing's quite like a single bridge pickup guitar. Whether it's an esquire, a junior or a single humbucker strat, nothing quite has the attitude and look of a single bridge pickup beast.

Who here's with me! And if so, let's see your single bridge pickup axe!
here here!

Here's the last single pickup guitar I bought -- a Teye La Pirata.

And this one is even MORE rare . . . yes, it's a real Gibson.

Yeah, a magenta burst would be sweet. I think I saw a picture of one once. I am something of an Ibanez fanatic, but I'm not sure how much $$$ I'd pay just to get a third finish. But thanks for putting the GAS in my head... :)

The trem on these isn't too bad. It's a bit big and klunky looking, but comfortable to play, and I've had no problems with either of them. Just don't lose your whammy bar or you'll pay through the nose for another.

You're welcome :). The one I saw didn't go for too much, $300-400 maybe.

Yeah, they seem that way; I guess they're ok for wobbles rather than Eddieisms. There was the Hard Rocker Pro as well, which had lockable saddles, but only appeared on the higher end axes, like the RS1000.

The Pro Rock'r is a b!tch - broke one of the T-nuts which holds intonation and saddle lockdown screws and it cost a pretty penny to get one. Lesson: don't intonate a Pro Rock'r under string tension!

This guitar started it's life as a Dean Jammer III. It originally had a humbucker and 2 single coils. The neck is original. One of very few Deans that I've seen with the Jackson-ish style headstock. It's now loaded with an old Seymour Duncan Custom (wound by MJ). I put the chrome cover on it. The tone control is also a push/pull pot. It sounds awesome. This was actually my first guitar. I've had it over 20 years.

Re: who here just loves their single bridge pickup guitars?

I love all single humbucker bridge guitars. My love was probably born from the Jackson RR24 and the ESP Alexi signatures.883733_422228821194918_588770606_o.jpg

it used to have a full pickguard, two single coils, and two tones. I took out the single coils and the tones. the pickguard recently shattered. So i trimmed it down.

Re: who here just loves their single bridge pickup guitars?

One of my favorite guitars:

  • USA Custom, light ash body with "Mary Kaye Blue" nitro finish by Guitar Mill
  • USA Custom, fatback neck
  • Duncan CS "tapped tele" pickup w/ Seymour's Esquire wiring
I've used this same type pickup in four projects. Obviously I like it ... it's very responsive, compresses nicely, and has great sustain in this guitar.

Another even MORE rare Gibson. When you have 36 frets there's only ROOM for one pickup!

Re: who here just loves their single bridge pickup guitars?

Sweet !!I love the colour on that 1st Esquire, and is that a Jerry Cantrell Rampage?

thanks. that's the francis rossi finish on the esquire [clearcoat over copper napthenate wood preservative]. and yes, that is a cantrell signature rampage, but it is an older m.i.c. tribute, from before production moved to indonesia. outstanding guitar, though. no way the u.s.a. model is worth 1400 bucks more when they make an import that good.

Re: who here just loves their single bridge pickup guitars?

I've barely played any of my other guitars since finishing this one.

Currently got an EVH Frankenstein pickup, sounds fantastic. The Titanium saddles, brass baseplate and titanium sustain block make this guitar sound so killer. Amazing articulation and tone,

That's a great example of a stripped-down axe with very little there but every single part is just awesome and makes for a better guitar overall. Nice Axe! I'd love to build one like that someday with a mahogany body and a natural finish.

Re: who here just loves their single bridge pickup guitars?

I hear ya. I'm the kind of player who will go to a different pickup for one phrase, or in the most extreme cases, just for one note (usually in the middle of a single bent note).

Also, with the exception of ballsy Tele twang, I don't really use bridge pickups for cleans, it's almost always one of the notch positions.

I love switching pickups in the middle of solos. I think I started doing that a lot after I got into Eric Johnson's playing. He does that all the time.

I also rarely use a straight-up bridge pickup for clean tones. If there's even a smidge of dirt in my tone, though, I will. :) But I use the neck or both pickups, or even a split bridge, for cleany-cleans.
