Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

Nothing against the people who like effects & pedals ... and I know it may sound kinda boring to some but this is what I like. Nothing like this set up to me. Anybody else?

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

i always record my guitar tracks that way, otherwise all that's between my guitar and amp is my delay pedal.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

me.....the only effects i own are a Vox wah and some kind of flanger that was in my brothers bag when i got his Mexi Tele. The flanger sounds like ass and i rarely use the Vox. If I need a wah type sound, i use the R7 and play with the blend between the pickups.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

I love the sound of guitar chords going into an amp, but usually I need some kind of guitar cord to get my signal there to start with. :chairfall

Ok I'm sorry I bet that's been done 50 million times but i couldnt help myself. I understand if my account is deleted next time I come on here. :smack:

Even though I do use a GT-8 multi fx preamp, I try and keep the (imaginary)signal as basic as possible. Usually just the preamp model, an eq & maybe a tubescreamer for boosts. I've heard people pile on 50 million effects which all end up cancelling each other out & making the signal sound so synthetic. But, as soon as I can afford a room full of 'real' amps the GT-8 is going out the window!

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

Well it sure as hell depends on what amp it is!!
But I still uses something like a comp or a od set for no gain and boost only to get the last out of my Brit voiced amps, then I just use my volumeknob, have recorded a some stuff that way, works nicely enough.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

I just love plugging straight into my ENGL, the sounds is great no matter what.

As a guy I know once said "You can fart in the input of an ENGL, and it'll still sound good" :D

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

More often than not ; I'll plug straight into the amp, with no effects. Sometimes, I'll goof around with a stomp box; but it generally isn't part of the signal chain. And I don't use no stinkin' reverb either.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

I would love to play that way . . .

. . . but i am still looking for that Holy-Grail-Amp, with the gain/dist-tone that can replace my Big Muff/Maxon D&S/70'sRat !
If i find it, i will sell my teenage virgin sister on the Russian Black-Market to get that amp !?

Until then, i have no option, but to use stomp-boxes !

Anyone knows about an amp with a gain channel sounding Maxon D&S-like, perhaps ?

I actually like reverb but it's not on my Boogie. If you are playing a bigger room, you don't need reverb. But I've found that delays and reverbs don't seem to work as well when they go through distortion in the preamp & poweramp. I actually mic my Boogie's speaker and add reverb there ... after the speaker. When I'm not running through a PA system, I use a Fender Acoustasonic Pro (with two 8" and a tweeter). You can see a picture of this rig in the picture on my website (below). I carry both amps with me everywhere ... that way no room gives me trouble.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

Although I have & enjoy playing with a few cool effects, more often than not, I just plug in & play.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

Hmmm... No not quite. Gotta have my chorus and delay. Gotta have my distortion. And for live I gotta have my volume pedal - because I play rhythm and lead through a one channel amp and I want the same tone at multiple volumes.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

I hate pedals. My amp does exatly what I want it to do and it sounds exactly like I want to sound. I dont need stupid pedals.

Guitar-cord-amp!

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

I will have about 10 pedals in the rig that I am slowly building, some styles are not doeble with out effects, there are so many EVH fans on this site, I bet they have some pro-effects things to say, whenever they get over their hang-over today.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

It depends.

I find that most pedals interfere with my ability to feel the amp so I don't generally like to use them. I find this particularily true with Mesa amps.....I always go guitar -> amp with them.

When available I will run a delay in the FX loop.

The only two FX that I've consistantly been able to jive with is a UniVibe and Phase 90. I don't know why but I can run those pedals all day and not feel like I've lost my connection to the amp.

Despite knowing all this I still find myself buying stompboxes all the time hoping to find some really cool tone that I like.....yet I know damn well that although 99% of them will sound great today that by tommorrow I'll be asking myself what I was thinking as I unplug them.

Re: Who likes Guitar -> Chord -> Amp?

A lot of times you just need chorus and a reverb just because the rythm section does not have any balls .....
