who loves the Rickenbackers?

I took a few minutes to look at them online last night. They're rather lovely, aren't they? And I've played a couple, they're so light, it's like playing air guitar. I only recently realized that Ric makes a whole series of guitars with humbuckers, anyone try them?

Anyone just want to turn this into a Ric appreciation thread? :13:

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I dig em.. the FireGlo is a wicked paintjob.

Probably one of the guitars I'm going to get somewhere down the road.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

i absolutely love them!!!!!!

the 660 is awesome...the neck is not for everybody, but i like it...they are truly unique and very well made instruments...and yeah...fireglo is an awesome finish...!!!

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

Love the way they look. Love the way they sound. Hate those skinny necks.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I love the 4001 bass! There was a time way back when if you were a serious bass player the only models you considered were Fender Precision & Jazz and a Ricky 4001. That was before Stanley Clarke and those pesky Alembics. :laugh2:

Here's my band's bass player with...... guess what....... :D

Rickenbacker basses are great! Here's my dads (which I probably play more that he does), and old photo with the strings off:

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

never played the guitars, love the basses, personally i think they're just A BIT overrated, p-bass specials have pretty much the same sound, i'd get one of those instead of a ric unless i magically found a lot of money

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

Yeah, but it's not all about the sound. It's got a certain feeling and mojo to. I myself like the shorter scaled neck....

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

Great guitars. I have a twelve string from the late 70's or early 80's and the neck is pretty substantial. I wonder if their necks got slimmer as time went on.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

The Dakota looks really cool to me.

Lemmy from Motorhead uses Rickenbacker basses exclusively, so to me those bass guitars will always be a true symbol of rock and roll, kinda like Les Pauls are with electrics.

Cool. I'm really interested in one now. It seems like I jump around from one guitar to the next because there are so many options and I want something that has both mojo and tone to it.

This guitar sounds like it's inbetween a strat and a gibson on stock tones. The reviews make it sound like the bridge is great for metal or classic rock, the neck is nice a thick for blues and anything with sustain and the middle gets a little Ric jangle. Is that accurate?

I love the looks and the fact that it has a thick, wide neck definitely appeals... so I'm interested all the way (besides, I'm looking for a guitar that's original anyways :) ).

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I think Ricks are great rhytym guitars. ( a Classic sound) But try and
play lead on it :yell: It's a whole different world. There's a reason
you NEVER see a blues guy playing a rick. All the ricks I've played
had a very flat radius. If bending notes is a big part of your style
Your in trouble !! :blackeye:

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I have a Rickenbacker 330 in fireglo (It's beautiful) and a 620 blueburst on the way.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I bought a Jetglo 330 with the higher output single coils a few months ago and I absolutely love it. I was looking for a very specific sound for a clean rhythm/clean lead fill type of thing and IMO the 330 fit the bill perfectley. It's definatley got it's own thing going, that's for sure. Yeah, the width of the neck is a bit smaller than some but I adjusted to it very quickly. I used the 330 in some original songs that a friend of mine wrote and he was grinning from ear to ear when he heard the tone of the Ric coming thru on his songs. It's a very special guitar, that's for sure.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I am anxiously awaiting my Ric 12 to get back from the tech, who is giving it a long-overdue setup and restringing with flatwounds.

:)
