never played the guitars, love the basses, personally i think they're just A BIT overrated, p-bass specials have pretty much the same sound, i'd get one of those instead of a ric unless i magically found a lot of money

I have an old 4001 in maple-glo, and I've yet to find ANY bass that sounds like mine at the bridge position. ;)

Wow... 6/04... this thread was brought back from the dead :D

I'd love to play one sometime and hear for myself what all the talk is about :) I'll give them this much, they look b!tchin'! :fing2:

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I know a guy who plays one, they sound great. But I've never actually had the chance to play one before, After buying a strat I might get one... after the hamer, the washburn, the epi les, the gibson sg and a PRS.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

An afterthought here. About one month before buying mine I never even considered buying one. I knew they were there and that they sounded good but that was about it. Then for some strange reason I started to think about them. I started reading up on Ric's at Harmony Central and what most surprised me was the consistant high ratings Ric's were given. Not just the 330 model like I have but all Ric's. That's when I thought I'd start investigating them for myself. Did a lot of reading and asked a lot of questions. I knew I wanted a 330, tried a few of them and they were all great. But when I saw the black Jetglo one I knew that was it. The Jetglos are just drop dead sexy. Played and sounded every bit as good as the other 330's I tried. No regrets.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

Zombie thread of the Undead!!!

I've always thought the 660 was a way cool body style. I had a 72-74 ish Mapleglow 4001, and I really didn't like it. I wanted to like it more than anything- the whole McCartney/Lemmy thing that thing had going on. It never sounded like I wanted it to. It also was kind of uncomfortable. The neck was really blocky, and the body would dig into my wrist. I had the thing for 6 years before I figured out that it wasn't working for me. I still kind of want another one to play with, this time it's the 4001C64S that calls...

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I've picked up a few Ric guitars and bass's a few friends have had over the years.. Being a Whofan i have known a few fellow fans that have bought RICs..... I find them hard to play really but they are the sound of the early WHO... I like the looks of Eic bass's and RUSH and YES had used them well but i also find them harder to play then most bass's

Love the way they look. Love the way they sound. Hate those skinny necks.

Ditto

I've been gasing for one of these and I got to try a 12 string model at the Musiclive Expo in Birmingham at the weekend and I could have cried when I tried it out, the neck is so skinny, its like an anorexic super model!:yell:

Had fun at the expo got to try lots of stuff and discounted some stuff I'd been reading about like the Variax, great idea but their guitars suck.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

I really hate the thin neck radius on them, it's like a JEM but worse.

I love the look of a lot of them though. They always remind me of John Lennon.

Re: who loves the Rickenbackers?

Love the way they look, sound is extremely cool (in a decidedly un-gibson/un-fender way) but built like a high-school shop project. Before you flame me know this... I've owned over a dozen of em through the years (basses, 12s, 6s, hollow, solid, old, new) and I still have two.

They are frikking cool anyway!
