who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

The 5E8A is the 1955-1957 style "low power" Tweed Twin with 2 rec tubes...killer amp, Chris Robinson uses one ALL the time and gets a killer sound from it.

Im sure you know Fender has reissued it and Victoria makes one as well as for kits...Ted Weber sells a kit for it that I belive is less than $700 which makes it the best deal out there simply based on money. If you contact Bruce Collins at Mission Amps Im almost positive he would get you a kit together and Scott F might also get you a kit together but Ted is the only one I know of for sure.

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

The Weber kit uses a Diode rec. If your looking for a dual rec? I think only Mojotone or Ampwares have the Dual rec. Chassis.

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

The Weber kit does use a SS Diode rectifier but the chassis is correct and does have the other 2 tube sockets, you can add a small filament tranny to run the extra tubes and use 2 5U4's like the original but the Mojotone kit is set up "correctly" plus IMO hte Mojo kit is gonna use better parts but it does cost more.

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

i would totally let scott built you a low power tweed twin. if you are going to do it i would splurge for the MM trannys

Don't mean to "police" or anything, but Black Crowes Chris Robinson? If so, he uses a Silverface Twin, not a Tweed Twin...or maybe we're talking about different people.

Heard nothing but good things about Ceritatone.

I actually was thinking abourt Rich not Chris...brain fart.

Rish has a pretty large collection of Tweed Fenders and I have seen him with low power twins several times...

rich robinson is the guitar player, chris is the singer

Haha alright...just making sure. Rich does have a lot of tweed stuff. There are some pics on his website and there's a video of just him and Chris playing a song on Conan, Rich using an Esquire -> Small Tweed something or other...he sure does get killer tone!

Chris has been rockin' the guitar a little bit lately though...usually just rhythm stuff. Bill Asher Custom or a Walnut Strat -> Silverface Twin Reverb.

K, I'll stop being a nerd!

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

ive seen him play with his band but i think his brother has much better tone

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

I'm not sure if Bruce could put together a LPTT kit, strike that, he could, but I'm not sure its something he offers. He does offer a killer 35 watt tweed that would probably blow you away.

If that doesn't work, I highly recommend Mojo. My experience with general parts purchases and cabinet purchases has been first rate. Don't expect a lot of hand holding though. Bruce covers the hand holding thing pretty well.

Weber is just plain great bang for the buck. The parts are about as "budget" as they get, but if you're just messing around, at those prices you can build two or three. If you're trying to build an "amp of a lifetime", I'd probably pass on Weber.

As for me, my wait list is closed and I'm not sure when it will reopen. Maybe after Christmas. But thanks to those that recommended me. I appreciate the kind words.

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

Bruce could do the kit but Imnot completely sure he is still doing one off kits, he does offer the 35 watt kit, that is killer but it is hardly a low power Twin style amp. The way to go IMO is Mojotone or simply order the parts yourself...both Mojo and Weber offer the chassis and cab, heyboer offers killer repro style trannys, get a set of speakers from Weber then just order the rest of the small parts yourself and build it!

Re: who makes a fender 5e8a kit?

I just sent you an email a while ago. I'm ready to start soldering yours up this weekend. Got that flight case picked out yet? :)
