Who Makes the Premier 6L6 Boutique Amp

Re: Who Makes the Premier 6L6 Boutique Amp

So he won't build one for a bedroom hacker, huh?

Re: Who Makes the Premier 6L6 Boutique Amp

I guess he really thinks that they're the greatest amps of all time and only wants awesome players to play it....talk about an ego....

i would LOVE to hear a really good guitar player and a dumble live and in person...that would be schaaaweeeet!!!

In my opion the best 6L6 amps are Leo Fender's, 50's era tweed amps. My '56 Princeton has the best natural overdrive tone I've ever heard.

If you ever get a chance to see Carlos Santana live, do it and you'll hear the Dumble in action. :)

Not if you buy one used. ;)

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Not to mention the fact that Dumble seems to try to buy them back off ebay. I donno whether it's because he really wants them back, or if he's just trying to drive up prices, and thus keep his name in high regard.

Maybe. I've read a few interviews with his tech, and his main amp is still his Boogie MarkI.....and depending on how Santana feels he may do a whole show using just the MkI.

Check out Robben Ford! When he came to Hungary together with the Ford Blues Band, he had the best LP blues tone I'd ever heard! It was hard to believe a LP could sound like that. :13:

Geez... how could I forget that? Robben Ford is incredible and I can't think of many people with that caliber of tone.

Re: Who Makes the Premier 6L6 Boutique Amp

I think Robben Ford and Larry Carlton pretty much exemplify the Dumble tone today.

Has anyone mentioned Carr Amps, Badcat?

Re: Who Makes the Premier 6L6 Boutique Amp

Diezels aren't a boutique amp. They are a factory piece, PCB boards diodes etc.

The Diezels I have played have left me scratching my head. I thought they sounded VERY mediocre.

im really getting into the tweed designs. between the bassman and the deluxe that scott made i havent played a non tweed amp in a month. and my reverb unit is at the shop so its DRY and i havent been missing it.
i think a tweed super clone might be my next baby

IMHO most 6L6 boutique amps are based on blackface fender tones with a gain stage or two thrown in if you're lucky.

Have it built for you by a guy like jeff seal.

I prefer the overdriven sound of EL84's to 6L6's.

Lots of great choices. Just pick a price point and go for it!

Yes, Jeff does great work...

I also love the sweet slightly overdriven tone of 6V6's and also the clean GEC (The original) KT-66 tubes.

Hope to see you on Tuesday night 6:00 ~ 6:30 at Speaker Surgeon

I will bring a Blackface Bassman and two original Jensen's (From a Blackface Twin Reverb) with me, so we can compare the Bassman against your amp - tone wise.

I'd swear that the Tweed Pro 1x15 that I built has little reverb elves living inside it. The damn thing is just hollow sounding.

Re: Who Makes the Premier 6L6 Boutique Amp

Okay, I'll bring the Tweed Pro with me as well. This should be fun. Anyone else in Houston want to show up? I'm hoping Larry can make a few clips for me to post.
