I know we have many LP, strat, tele and other classic guitar lovers around here. What are the impressions of the newer BC-Riches, such as the Beast or the Warlock? I was looking at there new line up and while not a fan of their new color choices, some of them look like amazing guitars.
Do we have any owners in here?
What do you think?

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

I do not own one, but thanks to Use Your Illusion-era Slash, i really like the Mockingbird (for a pointy guitar)
Must be in a natural finnish though . . .

I will probably never own one, unless i stumble on a super-silly deal of a life time.

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

Yeah, it's weird but the Mockingbird is pretty much the only pointy to ever really appeal to me, too.

Anyway, I'm sure H8red will be along soon to BLOW YOUR DAMN MIND.

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

I used to have a (fullsized) Beast, I wish they still made it, I put a Duncan custom and a 59 in it and it sounded amazing. My biggest regret is selling it. It was a very versatile instrument.
BCR is doing great stuff nowadays IMO. I think they should do more 80s colors and things like that. Their high end stuff can't be beat for the price either.

Yes, there latest color selections are pretty bland..I see just black and white. They have a few nice BCR's in the local shop, not quite the exact models and config I would want but I could get a feel for their quality. Off to th shop tommorow, I am in the market for a new axe but I keep putting new guitars on the list!

even though the 90s and early 2000s guitars were really eh, those figured maple tops with different colors looked great

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

I was interested in the Dagger shape, only without the knife hole things. The most recent Rich stuff I've had was a 97 Jr. V and a 99 Warlock 7, both USA throughneck stuff. I've played a friend's newer CS Mock and it's phenomenal with the exception of being a longhorn Mock, and thus, deathly neck-heavy. It played so nice, though, and sounded great. People who slam HHI for not putting out good stuff need to pull their heads out of the sand.

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

That would be the trick, finding one that is the highest quality out of the batches sent out. I guess that can be the trick out of all guitars from any manufacturer though.
You get units that might have certain defects or rough spots.
I will look in the local shops but the city pawn shops might also be a good place to find a new axe. I am more into some colors though instead of just black or white....or black...or white. Not much selection there for certain models.
I will admit though, the neck through design look pretty cool though.

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

I have and love a Gunslinger reissue!!

+1 for me too.

I have 1 of the red reissues that came with a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a Dimarzio Fast Track 1 in the neck.

I didn't mind the Super D so much but I'm not a fan of stacked/rails humbuckers so I swapped them out for a BKP Miracle Man in the bridge and a BKP Trilogy Suite in the neck and I couldn't be happier with it.

I've got four newer-ish American hand mades. The last was purchased in 2007 as a custom order. The others are early to mid 2000s. The hand mades are top notch. Not a single complaint.

All that said, I really dig some of the Special X series Mockingbirds. Very well built, sound good and not gaudy at all.

If you can land one of their neck thru guitars either NJ or Special X, they're not too bad for the money. The USAs are where its at but those are usually priced pretty high.

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

I LOVE the cloud inlays, possibly my favorite inlay of all time, wish someone else would use it though because the only BCR guitar that appeals to me as well is the Mockingbird and I just can't see dishing out the price for the American made one I would actually want...

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

Nice. Not really my taste but still a very nice guitar. I wouldn't say no...

I wish they would offer more finish and color options though.
They seem to be putting active pickups in most of their higher dollar guitars.

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

I have two of the older import Gunslinger Retros in Neon Green, I got them a while back they came with rockfield mafia pickups which were soon re-placed with an sh 13 and a j 50 bc both play really well for what I paid for them (they are b-stock) only thing wrong was a flaw in the paint. A little bright sounding but awesome none the less. BTW the new import model Retro Gunslingers arent what they used to be.

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

So how is the quality on their "NJ" or Platnium series Warlocks, beasts..etc?
I am unsure if I should just get one ordered from the dealer with all the touches I want or try and find a used model?

The Warlock was one of the first guitars I seen when I was younger that made me say "Whoa, man I have to have that guitar!"

Re: Who plays newer BC Rich?

I played a 10 string bich recently that was a platnium series I believe and the fit and finish on it was really good, however I would try my best to put my hands on one before I purchased it just so to be sure its what your looking for.
