Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

^ "I'm not a huge rock guy" - "My LP Special broke in half"

Sounds pretty rock :D How did that happen?

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

A single humbucker is a cool thing to have if it's an interesting pickup, like an A8 59/C, on a bare bones guitar, but I prefer lots of switching options on mine. Some of my guitars have as many as three pickups.

I must be out of my mind for having a guitar with four pickups.

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

Checking in my parts bin, I have all the hardware I need for a LP Junior - just need body and neck - looks like I can get that for a decent price. Methinks a build will be happening soon!

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

All of mine are 1humbucker/1volume whether they came that way or not, even the 2005 Soloist I just got which was a mint guitar and I gutted it so it suits me. Thats the name of the game and it gets done what I need it to.

People always give me crap about my set up but i say its like this; the guitar is your voice and we all have something to say, so just because we say things in a different way with different guitars, pickups, amps, etc... doesnt make what we say invalid.

I wanna see all those rawk axs. Can you post a picture with all of them?

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

I've had an SG Jr in the past, and a LP Jr currently. I can pretty much do anything I do with those. Most of my guitars have been multi pup, and I will use a neck or middle pup on occasion if available.

There is some kind of psychology at work when I play a single pup guitar that I find appealing, making a go with a stripped down approach. As always, YMMV!

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

I've really been thinking about it a lot lately.
Oh, no...
And have come to the conclusion that I prefer single pickup guitars.
Oh, no...
So much so that I am considering removing the neck pickup from my brent hinds V.
...and there you go: bad decision. Don't do it. There's absolutely no rational explanation to justify your decision. Unless you're very deeply into one-trick ponies, that is. ;)

A pine Esquire (BF 1400) . . .

Please post pics when this is done. Sounds cool.

Something I discovered is with 1-pickup guitars I get a much wider range of warm to bright by changing my pick position between bridge and neck, than I get by switching to a neck pickup from the same picking positions.

I've discovered the same thing. Thought it was just me. :)

I don't prefer single-pup guitars per se, but it is fun to have a couple around. As I've mentioned before, my lil ole Peavey Rockmaster has become the axe I pick up the most. Has a GFS Dream 180 in it now, but I've got a PATB-1 laying around that I'm thinking of trying in her.

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

There's way too many great tones to be had with a double PU guitar and a little creative wiring. I have no desire to ever own a single PU guitar.

Re: Who prefers a single pickup guitar?

Just gave a guy a $100 bill for this beauty last week. It was pretty much brand new. Sounds and plays great. I'm considering going through the effort of adding a Floyd but that would cost a lot more than the guitar did!

Another G-System user! How do you like yours?

I love mine, I have a nova system for my light setup and the g system for my full gigs. I do need to reconfigure a few things for my new GrandMeister 40.
