WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Ibanez GRX40, in the metallic dark blue color.
Kinda a cheap super strat, was like $115.
The original pickups were terrible in retrospect. Those "powersound" pickups.

After a while it got a SSL-1 neck pickup and that's what got me interested in Seymour Duncan.
A bit after that I got a Super Distortion for the bridge pickup. That thing was great.

Years later I pawned it for $50 so I could buy fungi of the Psilocybe genus.

Everything said it was a decent guitar to begin on.

Boomers man. Boomers.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

For some macabre reason, it plays and sounds better than some of Ibanez's Indonesian offerings.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

'74 Yamaha FG-160 - my dad still has it. It's aged well, and went from having mile-high action and sounding cardboard to playing wonderfully one year - maybe 10 years ago, say, 2005 or so, it kind of went through magical guitar puberty because of the weather or the alignment of the planets or something, but it's really great now and I am jealous that it's not mine. It's a D-28 knock that can hang with a D-28 now.

My first electric is one I still have - 1996 Stratocaster. American Standard.

My first acoustic is one I still have - 1998 Guild D30. Made in Westerly, RI before they moved the factory.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

A jasmine acoustic guitar was my very first but my first electric was a peavey raptor strat copy and I had a lot more fun with that one. :-)

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

No-name hollow-body jazz box acoustic that a friend gave me when he got his first decent electric. He'd painted a sloppy freehand spiral bullseye on it. It had the highest action of any fretted instrument I've ever seen. It wasn't worth the effort to push a string down all the way to make fret contact. When I finally got my first decent electric, I smashed it with a hammer.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

I still have my first guitar. It's a Stella acoustic my parents bought for me s/h in England in 1966.

I started learning with nylon strings on it, and later started using steel strings. It's almost impossible to get it in tune, at best about three consecutive frets will play in tune and everything else will be out. But somehow i managed to learn despite this guitar. But it does have an awesome authentic old blues sound. One day I plan to shave the fretboard off and replace it with an accurately-slotted board so it could become a fully-useable instrument.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

I think the first electric was a samick HSH or hss type thing. 3 lame pickups and a whole host of dodgy switches etc.
IIRC I had a gorilla amp too......parents kept spraying for blowflies whenever I turned on.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

I sure do. It was a black Epiphone Les Paul with a cream pickguard that I bought brand new at Schmitt Music in Brooklyn Center, MN. I still have photos of it somewhere back home in MN but not here with me in Greece. It was an awesome first guitar! I played on it for 4 or 5 years before I upgraded to a Gibson Les Paul. I sold the Epiphone but sometimes I regret selling my first guitar even though I own much, much better guitars now. I will forever be a Les Paul guy at heart because of that Epi though.

Man, that's sad, what if you just asked the buyer to sell you your guitar back? The first guitar I played was an LP as well, but my first one I owned was an Aria Strat, still own this, this made me a strat guy :)

I sold the guitar 10 years ago now so who knows where it is now. I sold it to a store so I do not know who bought it from them. I like playing with Strat guys because I like the way strat tones separate from les paul tones in the mix. From 2007 to 2011 I played with two different strat players and really grew to appreciate the separation in the mix.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Mine was a cheap no brand Strat. Thick dark green body with super noisy pickups and action that was way too high :)

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Mine was some kind of Silvertone Les Paul copy. I'm guessing it was made in the very late 70's to Early 80's. I ended up giving that one to my nephew when he started playing, about 10 years ago. He still has it.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

My first was a Framus that I bought in high school when we lived in Deutschland. (Germany) It was unusual in that there was no body routing. The "pickguard" assembly was about 3/4" thick. You could take the screws out, and slide it sideways out from under the strings with both pickups, vol/tone and output jack all enclosed within it. I've never been able to find a pic of one anywhere.

My uncle bought a Framus 12 string acoustic when he was stationed in Germany in the 70's. It was a nice guitar.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

They were kinda Germany's Fender. Was your uncle in K-town?

I am not sure exactly where he was stationed and I never got the chance to ask him. He died in 2008. When I was younger he would tell me stories about the autobahn. He was a MP for the army but I am not sure what base he was at.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Memphis Les Paul copy. Plywood with a bolt on neck. Back in 1987 I got it used for $120. Horrible guitar.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Ibanez GSZ120. Got it when I was eleven or twelve. Quite decent guitar actually, played it until the frets were worn to death. Nowadays it´s beated but sports Kramer neck and works as a pickup testing machine. Recently found the original neck from the closet and it is in midst of a re-fret.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Mine was a Kent single "hum" SG. After further inspection there was only one coil under the cover. It was around $99 in 79 when I got it.

I had a Kent Les Paul copy, two pickups, but they really weren't humbuckers, did a Pete Townsend on it about 20 years ago.

Re: WHO REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST GUITAR????

Fender Strat....I think it was either a '76 or '77 model. Kept it for maybe 30 years until someone cleaning out the house through out the old guitar because they had not seen it played in a long time. I had an electric years before ever owning an acoustic guitar.
