Uh! Jeff Beck but i could be wrong...

I don't know if it was a player, but Wayne Charvel started using aftermarket pickups in his guitars, like the SD JB. Every rocker wanted a typical alder bodied/maple fingerboard/ rear routed floyd quipped strat, played through a hot rodded marshall- it was a formula that just worked, and Charvel was one of the first guitar manufactures to use them

Dont forget of the 80ies Kramer guitars with the JB. A lot of guys are looking constantly for these on fleabay. They bring up hefty prizes for 20 year old guitar!!

I happen to love jeff's playing but i dont consider him to have a real heavy rock tone like some of the guys who use a JB pup
i was refering to players that used the JB like lynch, jerry cantrell, the guy in ratt,
dave mustaine, etc all the guys that get a pretty heavy tone with massive crunch and guts:bowdown:

With the question "re-qualified" like this, I´d be tempted to say Judas Priest..... But the question is who used the JB first in a heavy rock setting, so we essentially have to ask Seymour who the forst 100 or so JBs went to ;)

priest? really?
KK used stock on his flying V and duncan singles on his white strat
and glen used a dimarzio super Distortion and paf in the neck on his SG and fender strat for years

they did not have JB's till the hamer guitars came into the picture years later?

Super D's all the way. Paul Stanley didn't start using the JB until the 80's. Ace is/was all Super D's.

I'm going with Seymour.

i heard he does not use a super crunchin, high gain tone?
i think he plays relatively clean toned on a tele?
what i need a answer to is who was the guy that had the high gain and found the JB to complement it?
I would think george lynch or someone like that?
maybe a early charvel user?

I wanted to know if anyone knows which player was responsible for using a JB for the 80's rock tone?

Not sure who, but he should be drawn and quartered! :laugh2:

I think I read somewhere where Paul used Super2's BTW to contrast with Aces Paula/SuperD "beef". Considering his tone comparitively, I'd concur. Thinner, with lots more upper mids and treble.

Back in the 70's he very well may have used the Super2's. I don't know for sure about that era. I do know in the 80's he went to JB's, possibly around the time Vinny came in to the picture.
