Whole Lotta Humbuckers Epi Les Paul

Ordering a set for my Epi Plus Top Pro. The WLH bridge sounds so good in my Epi SG I’m getting a set for my LP. The Pro Buckers are a nice Alnico 2 PAF pup, but I love that Alnico V tone.

Mincer, I have a really bright guitar that needs a set of pickups. You think they would be a good fit? And not to hijack this thread, but how would they sound compared to a Slash set? Thanks

I just have experience with the bridge models.

The Slash has a squishier feel. Less highs and lows, more high mids and low mids. It's overall smoother.

The WLH has edgier highs, and deeper yet tighter lows with a more open feel. Typical A5 vs A2 difference, but the WLH is slightly less scooped and slightly more squishy than the '59.

If you have a bright guitar, the WLH will emphasize that. Go with something that has A2 magnets, like the Alnico II Pro.

Thanks Rex. Most of my stuff is higher in output except for my Slash set. I always wind up rolling back the gain with them, just sounds better and seems "right"

I play high-gain stuff pretty much all of the time, and both the Slash and the WLH work great under high-gain. So does the '59, FWIW.

It can, if it is an overtly bright guitar. I've played a few LPs like that...it isn't common, but they are out there.

I suspect the OP will be happy. The WLH set is one of my top three favorite humbucker sets.

Would the WLH Humbucker “fatten” up the tone a bit in a LP? If there is one negative I’ve found with the Pro Bucker on the Epi LP the bridge pickup can be a little too trebly.

I don't think of the WLH as a 'fat' humbucker, really. It does have a cutting high end. If any guitar needs a fat pickup that is PAF-strength, I'd go with an Alnico II Pro or Slash...but probably not the WLH.

The WLH has a bigger bottom-end than the Slash, but it also has a lot more treble than most A2-types, though.

But yeah, I agree. I wouldn't say the WLH is all that fat-sounding. I mean, I guess it is for a PAF (even then, I'd say it's more "throaty" than "fat", really)... but it's still an A5 PAF-type: It's scoopy, airy, bright, open, bold, clear, snarly, etc.

Yep the WLH in my Epi Plus Top Pro is amazing. Can’t put the guitar down. It nails the “Page” tone and to my ears is a crunchy, growling rock. Add some more gain and it crosses over to AC/DC Back in Black. Sounds great clean, very clear.

I’m not sure what I’m missing now from owning an actual Gibson. The WLH took this guitar to the next level.

I have a Gibson and several Epis. You arent missing a thing unless you just want a Gibson as a dream or whatever. Sweet guitar!! Enjoy

I guess he means that these past years, Gibson Les Pauls have come with options to split the coils, select inner or outer coils when split, hotwire the bridge pickup directly to the output jack, turn the pickups out of phase, etc.
