Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

Curious what makes them "limited edition"?

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

Those ones were just built for the Uk. They turned out to be very popular so SD went into full production mode for the rest of the world. Great pups.

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

Yes these are one of the original custom shop sets, plain base plate, no logo and orange/ red custom shop stickers. I opened them up to check them out last night as they were still sealed and untouched.... can't wait to get a new JP harness. The stupid thing is I have an original Gibson JP wiring harness here somewhere as my LP is a 95 Page model..... I just can't remember where the hell it is ☹️ These pick ups will replace my Brobucker/ Antiquity combo so they had better step up to the mark.

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

I'm currently using an original UK set of WLH in my Epi. Love them. Very full sound and very versatile. Great classic rock pups.

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

Are they any different to the WLH that I might go out and buy today from a shop with money for a guitar with strings (many) and be all like WHAAAAAAYYYY?

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

I have no experience with the retail ones but I've heard there is a difference.

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

I wanna know how the set sounds in your LP! And I wanna see them!

Me too! ha ha

As soon as I've got a new harness I'll get them in and get some pics. Just have to find out who does the best ones... if anyone has bought one or has any info please let me know.

Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

someone was just saying they hear a difference in the Alpha-Omega production and custom shop sets. interesting.

I wonder if that has something to do with the recent posts from Lew regarding the CS Pearly Gates set. According to Derek Duncan here, the reason custom shop Pearly Gates sound different isn't all MJ. The specs ARE different: "As far as the Pearly Gates from the Custom Shop goes, Billy has wanted a slightly hotter version the past few years(yes he still calls MJ and gets them regularly, along with the BG1400 tele pickup from the custom shop). We don't want to change the specs of the production PG, since those have been a favorite of many throughout the years, so we decided to make his custom."

That put my mind at ease somewhat, production vs custom shop. It isn't always apples to apples. I guess Seymour Duncan wouldn't have the reputation he/the company has, if the production floor weren't able to make the pickups how they were meant to be made.

Now, making a whole new pickup based on input from someone, that's custom shops forté IMO. Not just "baking by the recipe"... :)

I get where you're coming from, daddy-o. But I think that train might heading down the tracks the other way.

Re: Whole Lotta Hums UK Ltd Edition/ Exclusive box set

That guitar will channel Led Zeppelin, being the Page model with the pickups Seymour created for Jimmy.

My LP goldtop has pullup tone knobs to split the coils. It sure adds a lot of versatility to a Gibson. Too bad Gibson didn't do it that way since the 50's.

Yeah baby... that's the idea! My eldest is looking at getting his own place now so if he finds something I'll finally get my studio room set up. Once I've done that, being an old git I will learn as much Zep, DC, Lizzy etc as I can.... it seems I'll have the time with my band members not having any enthusiasm to get out and gig!
Ref Gold tops.... I think once I get a few things sorted at home I'm going to look for an older 57 R.I from 2003 ish and hope I can bag one with a Brazilian board..... probably wishful thinking on my part though!
