Just curious, since the cat's been outta the bag for a few days, and it'll be released in a month? Who's buying the Duncan Tube Classic OD pedal as soon as it's available?

More like... As soon as the funds become available For me. But... If I file my taxes return this week? Hehe, I'll have the cash when it comes out!! See that.. It all works out.:naughty:
I gotta take it for a test drive 1st. I can't just drop 2 beans on a pedal on spec. and hype.:ok:

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

Yeah, it looks to be a cool pedal, so I hope it sounds as good as it looks. I hate to use the C word, but I'm pretty sure it's manufactured in China, so I hope the quality is consistent. I'm also wondering if Duncan will support those rare tubes, or if we're on our own, once the pedal is bought?

I won't say anything further until they start to ship in mid March. From the specs and looks, it seems like they have a winner.

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

i dont like it in that pic.. the other one i saw looks much better.. it's not as brown, but more sparkly golden.

i'm gonna get one after zerb does.. cos that'll mean two things. it's either available in europe.. or he'll sell it to me LOL

:laugh2:

I already told John @ Black Rose/Wymore Guitars to put me on the list.

I trust Christian & the other testers opinions....figured I'd give it a try, even if I do have a Fulldrive!

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

I probably will. Then I'll return it if I don't like it, but I probably will like it since I own nothing similar to it.

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

I'm about 99% sure that I'm going to snag one of these. It will be interesting to see how it fairs in a modelling/SS system.

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

I'll let you guys be the guinea pigs first? LOL....Just bought the Plexitone and it's great and was pricey also..

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

I heard Scott Miller demo this at NAMM, and I thought it sounded killer.
He played a strat through a BF Super Reverb, and starting from a good clean tone, got some great Marshall type crunch chords, on into higher gain territory.

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

right away as soon as i can find one "used"...hehe:p

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

Honestly,
this pedal looks awesome to me, but I am pretty happy with my Mark IV's overdrive tones. Especially the slightly dirty channel. I usually use that channel by itself and kick on the EQ for a bit of a boost. Since my pedal board only has a volume and Crybaby, I think I need a delay, chorus, ETC... first. Then perhaps a computer recording setup.
Then maybe the new Les Paul. Then maybe....... well by that point i'll have to save for new clothes and a Gym membership cause my GF will be long gone by then.

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

It looks like an interesting pedal, but I've been evaluating a Damage Control Womanizer for the past week and I'm about to pull the trigger on one. It's kinda similar, but it runs a pair of 12AX7 tubes at 250V and has a direct out with 1x12" cab simulation in addition to an amp out. It also has a great sounding opto-compressor and pre and post EQ built in. However, it doesn't have a gain control for the boost switch -- it provides a fixed 14 dB boost. Anyway, it's a great sounding class A preamp pedal in front of an amp or direct to a board, with a price ($375) that matches its versatility and quality. They also are releasing a couple of stripped down versions that will compete head to head with the SFX-03 in the $200 range, so it looks like high voltage dual tube pedals will be the "in" thing this season.

It looks quite awesome but I need a new amp first worthy of its awesomness. What tubes does it have in it?

+1. I'll wait a bit until I can test drive it.

It uses a duet of NOS USA-made, Phillips-Sylvania 6021 dual triodes. The 6021 is a mil-spec tube designed for long life, extreme duability and virtually no tendency towards microphonics.

We have around a 10-year supply at the moment. Which means we have around 10 years to find the remaining tubes on the planet so we can continue to service this product.

And yes, it's made in China. As are the SFX-01 and SFX-02 -- and the D-TAR box products like Mama Bear. I hate to say it, and feel free to flame if if you will, but here's the facts: we tried making the SFX-01 here in California. It was expensive and we had a high fall-out rate. We moved production to China and the fall-out rate dropped to virtually nil. Same quality standards with the -02 and the D-TAR products. So, while it might not be totally "PC" to have "Made in China" on the product, the bottom line is that the stuff is just really well made. Plus, making it in China is enabling us to street the -03 for just over two bills. :scratchch

+1. It would be cool to have as a lead boost type of thing in my rig.

Guitar -> SFX-03 -> Wah -> Pod XT -> Atomic Reactor 112

I'm pretty happy with the stomps available in the Pod, and I can activate them with the floorboard, but I may succumb to the tubey goodness.

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

I used to be one of them Ultra PC guys... Only by American etc...
When I bought my Dodge Pickem up truck and opened the hood to find many parts labeled NipponDenzo. So the idea of anything being made 100% in the USA!!! is probably not accurate anymore.
Like it or not... we have a global economy. Right or wrong, I'm no moralist.
All I know is, in my experience, Seymour Duncan operates with the best business practices of any company I have dealt with. From customer service, on down the line.
I can only imagine that producing any product these days would be a logistical nightmare, from recooping R&D costs, to being able to hit target list prices. ETC.
I'm sure somewhere the decision of do we go with China or do we price this box at $600 must have hit some meeting room somewhere along the line.
Anyhow there's my .02
Peace Yall

Re: Who's buying the SFX-03 Tube Classic right away?

I can tell that they're an ideal pedal for single channel tube amps, since they essentially add 2 channels to your amp. I really wish I could have been at the NAMM Show to see it in action with Scott Miller/Super Reverb/Strat.

Curly.....what connection did you have to gain entry into the show?
