guitars, amps, strings and hands all factor into this; one man's bright and shrill is another man's articulation and clarity.

Agree with you on the first point; there are no absolutes in taste and tone. I may tend to like warmer bridge PU's than the average guy, but then the average guy plays a Strat, and is impervious to treble. I'm treble sensitive.
