its justa great design and guitar. It has great tone and looks awesome. Personay i havent touched a LP that i disliked.

LP and LP type guitars are just beautiful instruments.

Carved maple top
22 frets
24 3/4 scale
Rosewood fretboard
2 humbuckers
TOM bridge
As said, adds up to a formula
thats tone is
known through the history of rock.
They are not the most shred friendly guitars.
But, hey that's what Carvin, Jackson, ESP, and Ibanez are for.
Though you can still shred on a LP type if you want to.
I have 3 LP influenced guitars.
Diodati 59Q
Diodati 58 (on the way)
Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe.
I also have my Carvin, Schecter, and Parker guitars.
Which are more shred friendly superstrat types.
It's just two different camps of vibe.
I do find when I'm playing the LP types I consentrate on rhythms more.
When I play the Superstrat types I consentrate on leads more.
no reason, It just ends up that way.
A vibe thing again I guess.

Sure, they're obviously nice guitars, but I think the money goes a lot further with other brands.

To me, LPs are one of the ugliest guitars on the market. I can't really picture myself playing one.
I think that it's mostly a social thing. They are so common and highly regarded that most people buy them because of it. That they should be good if so many play them. Like artists in modern pop music?

I hated the look of the Les Paul at first. I passed on many because of it. The first time I picked up one I shredded on it and I knew thats what it was made for!! It's rather comfortable too. The weight doesn't bother me in the least either.

I bought a 76 Les Paul Deluxe and hate it... i still have it but never play it... sounds really bright and is heavy as hell... the Maple necks and the mini humbuckers on those are not as good for a true LP tone as a Mahogany neck/humbucker one would be.... I stuck different pickups in it over the years but i'm taking the JB out of it and putting Gibson LP Deluxe reissue pickups back in it.. I never modified the pickup rout so i can still drop the original mini's back in no problem. I have played other LP Deluxes and all are better then the one i own... i bought it when i was 19 and took out a huge loan from my boss at the time... I didn't know he was going to keep all my money for the next 6 weeks to pay him back.... I had not fully understand the pay back agreement. That was a hard 6 weeks working and not have any cash! Anyways i bought it and it has been a curse as it has had tons of neck trouble and sounds awful... You have to be careful what you wish for sometimes i guess, but oddly i will not part with it.... i do wish to buy a real newer LP oneday..... I'm more of a strat guy but i do like LP's.... for some reason i always knock the g string out of tune on LP's... i guess being used to Floyd guitars with locking nuts i have become used to really bending the strings hard!

For me it's just tone...
nothing has the thick lower mids....single notes just "cry" on the bridge pup, the neck pup has a very vocal quality....the note "bloom"....it sounds great for chugga chugga or sparkly cleans or anything between.....you get so many tones out of it by playing with the volume and tone knobs with both pups on...
I prefer the weight as well....the feel of the carved top and tune-o-matic....
I've played and owned the copies...and still nothing is EXACTLY the same..there are guitars that offer more features/versatility and the same or better build quality for the same/less money..but none of them have the same tone and feel to me.

Yeah unfortunately those were not reallt great years for LP's (IMO).
I had an early 70's Deluxe I bought in the 80's cos Scott Gorham used one and mine had a decent sound, but was too bright for my tastes as well...didn't care for it too much at the time and sold it.
The newer deluxes are awesome though.. I bought one from MF and sent it back cos of a few finish issues that bugged me, and I'm REALLY sorry I did so. I love the Standard I replaced it with..but it's not quite the same...that MF Deluxe was just one of if not THE the best sounding and playing LP's I've had..and I've had quite a few. The newer mini's are a big improvement..they are more like a cross between a p-90 and a full size HB....clean , crunch, or heavy gain they were excellent....they chugged, screamed, and sang. I'd buy another w/out hesitation.

Ya i love those 1999-2002 Deluxe Reissues too! They are basicly a Standard with a 59 neck shape i hear and some nice sounding Mini's..... The local store had 3 in for a Gibson sale at a good price a few years ago... saddly i was not making good money at the time... Had to walk away.

I also have to admit i first hated the look of the les paul, but like alchohol once you get that acquired taste your hooked on it forever!!!

I didn't think I'd really be a paul guy... they just looked too common...
After playing a million guitars and disliking them for one reason or another, I came to the conclusion that (good) les pauls are magic. I've never played a copy that played like a Paul.
So I don't have a (Les) Paul, but if you want a bit of relieved weight, try a The Paul or The Paul II. LP body style, sg width. Mine's perfect. I've personally found that lighter guitars sound better than heavier guitars in general... I lucked out and got a deal on mine, the lightest piece of mahogany I've ever felt, even when you take into account its size. GC wanted to basically give it away because of some neck and pickup problems... I knew better. A setup later, and I don't think I'd trade it for anything.
