Why a Lespaul?

budget gibby such as the Studio model (which in my opinion is NO different than a Gibson LP custom or standard, outside of some fancy inlays and laborious finishes).

My opinion too, my Studio is a great guitar.

I think i'd be more willing to buy a Studio and save $1300canadian as well..... There is also some new LP models out that are kind of cool for around $2000 here in Ontario Canada But studios are good LP's.

Re: Why a Lespaul?

For the same reason a bunch of other people play them, but haven't mentioned yet: Because Ace Frehley had one! (Or Page, or early Clapton, Rev Billy G., Rhoads, Wylde, Skynyrd, et. etc.)

That was why I got one. Why do I mostly/only play them now?
#1 It's the feel. Heavy, Solid, Substantial, Sturdy - like a rock.
#2 Sound - heavy, full, sustain, fat, loud - like rock.

Nobody who has ever picked up my 79 Standard has not been blown away by how well it PLAYS. And I'll put my 490R neck pup up against anyones A2P for a Slash tone any day. Although I love the DD in the bridge! And by the way - Their next comment is that it sounds AWESOME.

Not every Gibby is amazing - but then, neither is every PRS or whatever. Sometimes it just comes together. But the Gibson Mojo percentage is fairly high.

My epi with PG/CC is arguably the best sounding axe. The Studio w/ P-100's has the most vibe. My Kaman is a really decent copy. But nothing else describes #1 better than RIGHTEOUS!

Re: Why a Lespaul?

i dont know why. no les paul ive ever played did anything for me. and the only one i like the look of is the voodoo les paul.

Re: Why a Lespaul?

Ive never played a LP, But I think a stock MIA strat with rio-grande pickups sounds better than an LP.

That's where we disagree. The problem people have is that they can't just pick one up from any store and expect it to be "magical" right from the start. So many pros have been seen with Les Pauls and suddenly that means that the majority have to be "pro level", especially at the prices they are, but they aren't that way.

I used to dismiss them after a Les Paul Standard that was a lemon, but I love my R0 LP Special DC because I managed to find one that was done right. The right Gibson is without a doubt, an end-all guitar. I've played plenty of boutiques and I love my Gibson as much as my Grosh.

No guitar is "magical", but some just look, feel, play and sound right right out of the box and those are the ones that you jump on. The "magic" comes from your hands and how far you take the guitar you've invested in.

Re: Why a Lespaul?

For those of you who have played LP's at guitar stores and have been unimpressed, you really owe it to yourself to play one at a shop who has done a pro level setup on one, or find a friend or whatever who has one that is set up right. Proper nut cut, frets leveled, polished and radiused correctly, action set just right, ect. The feel and sound is far different from what you usually get at a guitar shop. It's a whole nuther thread/argument that a 2K guitar should already come set up properly....and it should. Unfortunately Gibsons often don't. But again, when it is, the magic comes out of it.

LP's arent for everyone, and for years I swore that I would not spend the $$ on one because of the quality control issues. Then I took a chance on a great deal that TC posted on a used one....and it completely changed my view of Gibson, and my guitar playing world. I find more inspiration from my LP's than with anything else I have played.....it makes me want to play. It also makes me appreciate the differences between guitars. I love my strat sounds, my Dean Hardtail, my Superstrat sounds even more now.

I never thought I would find myself singing the praises of Gibson. I guess I'm not really, but singing the praises of the Les Paul. Gibson the company leaves many things to be desired. The Les Paul is a few simple fixes away from being one of the best instruments on the planet.

Not bad, one of the better ones I've seen. Quite nice flame and colour, LPs seem to have a lot of nice finishes. Doesn't still really strike me as looking cool.

Who knows about the future, opinions are prone to change, but right now LPs are far behind others in my gaslist, even if on it at all. Not because of Gibson's quality or price, but because of the guitar.
