Why are Les Paul DC's so overlooked?

Re: Why are Les Paul DC's so overlooked?

From what I read, Les Paul came up with the idea of a solid body electric guitar, and the idea was a neck through body with semi hollow side body wings attached. He went to Gibson several times, his ideas were rejected. Ted McCarty designed the Les Paul solidbody for Les Paul. They wanted Les Paul's name on it since he was on television quite a bit (in the beginning of television) with Mary Ford, and wanted him to play the guitar on television. Gibson went to Les Paul witha ferw prototypes and he just signed off on it. He had little to do with the design of the Les Paul, other than it being a solid body electric with pickups. There was also reportedly a fallout between Les Paul and Gibson for years since they refused to listen to his designs. His favorite Les Paul has been the Les Paul recording model, which he had more of a hand in designing, and is always seen playing.

The Les Paul Custom Black Beauty was designed cosmetically to match the tuxedo's he's wear on Black and White TV. The original Gold Top paint, found on the models up until '58, was very expensive and only used on the top of the guitars, not the back and sides due to its cost. The Sunbursts were actually cheaper to produce

Play any RI 0 Les Paul Special DC and you'll understand. It doesn't have 24 frets and the look and playability is great. I've never had a single issue with a horn digging into me when I play and I'm not afraid to move around.

I've played a ton of guitars over the years, everything from RI ES-335s, Strats, Les Pauls, Teles and this P90 guitar just *works* for me. Nothing sounds quite like it to my ears. It's jangly at times, raw at times, smooth at times and always cuts through the mix, it's just a very versatile and beautiful sounding stock instrument (most stock pickups have to go). If anybody wants to hear it in action and you live in the CT/MA/NY area, just see me live.

I made the mistake of almost selling it a week ago to fund car payments and it was the most expensive instrument I had so I thought it should be the one to go. I'm just glad I came to my senses. I'm also not going to worry about playing out with it, a good instrument should be played and as much as I like the Telecasters I have, this one just works the best for me.

I'm all for people bashing it though, it makes it easier for me to stand out in a crowd both aesthetically and musically ;). Just think to yourselves: they're ugly as sin, the pickups sound like crap, they're designed wrong so they physically impale you worse than a BC Rich, they consistently go out of tune, have no sustain and are a Gibson, so they are obviously overpriced and the quality blows :fing2:
