Sorry, I should've put a laughing smiley with my Slayer post... it was a joke, making fun of a guy on Harmony Central who said the TS-9 sucked because he couldn't use it for Slayer.

I actually really like the TS-9

Several reasons..."Most people" find that they lose almost all of their bass on a regular TS when they engage it...Alot of guys want more gain from their TS but they also want a cleaner boosted tone,and they complain about the way the mids are eq'd in every instance....Recent TS9s have an inferior sounding TA 57778 opamp and the JRC4558D chip sounds better and is warmer and smoother in the circuit.The newer chip was used for "supposed" instability problems,but I've yet to experience it?...It's nice to also have a pedal that is quieter due to better components and get more sustain and harmonics from the pedal...You have to know where and what to change and that's the magic of modding pedals...Even if none of the component values were tweaked,the pedal sounds a heckuva lot better to my ears by replacing electrolytic caps with good quality poly caps,and then replacing other caps and using metal film resistors,quiets the circuit..

I've been modding TS for about 6 or 7 years now and it was the first pedal I got a schematic for and tweaked until it suited my fussy ears... :wink:

I've not modded 1 TS yet that someone didn't like...Is the modded pedal better than stock? Not sure,but it is different... :burnout:

In fact I have 2 tube screamers, a TS9 RI and 2nd one that was modded by Stratdeluxer97. The modded tube screamer is thraotier than the stock one, and with certain Amps it takes on a completley different character. The original TS9 RI that I still have and use does not have the botton that the modded one does and the Spina TS9 has a lot more gain. The original TS9 RI is STILL a great pedal, but John makes it sound better

Modding a pedal is sort of the same reason why players change PUPs. in a guitar. Are the stock PUPS bad? No I don't feel they are bad, but with the right PUPS in the right guitar it will sound soooooo much better. The same applies to pedals.

Thanks for posting Dave....I shouldn't say the modded TS sounds better,but it does sound different and as Dave states,it is throatier,ballsier,has more gain,less mid hump,and is quieter....If you roll the drive knob below 1/2 way,the pedal is now cleaner for your boost settings...
