Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

I see pics sometimes of guitars with Warmoth, USACG, Mighty Mite, etc. necks where someone has put a Fender decal on it. Fender does not just hand out headstock decals to the general public, so I have to assume these people are fabricating them somehow.

My question is: unless you're a dirtbag who is trying to sell it as a genuine Fender, what's the point? This is especially puzzling when you consider that Warmoth and USACG necks are superior to Fender's necks in almost every respect. It's like putting a Chevy emblem on the grille of a BMW.

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

For some people the logo is part of the look...they are so conditioned and used to seeing it that they may feel like the empty space doesn't look right. My UASCG neck has one, but I bought it used that way. I don't care either way.

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

you can often find decals on ebay that say "FENDER partsocaster" or somthing like that

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

Well, you can buy them all day long if you know where to get them and as to why...the headstock looks nekkid w/o one!

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

Strats just don't look right to me without the logo, it always looks incomplete. Besides, if you buy a "licensed Fender neck", it's pretty legit. You can buy the stickers on eBay...from any period. 60's 70's, spagetti..whatever you want. Different strokes for different folks is all.

I used to have a few that said Ferden (no, not...Fender it said Ferden) then it said Sortacaster...I wish I had saved at least one of them!

I think i`m gonna put fender decals on my warmoths. It`s all about the looks :)

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

...for the same reason they'd copy the Fender body and headstock at all in the first place :laugh2:

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

Adds to the "mojo"....but I'd never try to pass it off as the real thing for a quick buck, unfortunatly though some people would.

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

well... I guess it might also depend. If Fender gives their liscence to a company to copy their neck design, and you're using in on say, a strat that you've broken the neck on and need to put something new on... can't you still say that since the rest of the guitar is still fender, though the neck might not be, and since Fender authorized the neck for replacement, as Warmoth are... does that mean you can't have your little ad for Fender on the headstock? :laugh2:

I guess it might be a different story on a warmoth or custom body... but some of the custom jobs are obviously not fender anyway...

If I was going to clone a Fender guitar (and I am, soon) I'd put the decal on. I'd never sell it as a Fender though.

I'd keep it so no one else could

cause all the cool kids are doing it

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

Wattage made me some nice waterslides for the Tele-Gib....the headstock will look totally nekkid without something there.

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

...the way I see it (for the third time in this thread :D)...

If you DO it, you're giving into the snobbery of having a decal on the neck and can fit in with the cool kids who do.

If you don't do it, you're giving into the inverse snobbery and can then hang out with the other cool kids. The primary difference between the two groups is that you can't ridicule the other without being in the opposite.

So just do what you like :smokin: I like the decal. So I guess I know who to hang out with now

it's not like either idea is original... and your'e cool no matter what :)

(must lay off the drink)

Me too. If I went to the trouble to build a custom Strat, I'd want to pay respects to Leo's design . . . not rip anyone off. If I built a Cobra kit car, it would say "Cobra" on it. ;)

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

I've been wondering if it's ok to put a Mustang decal on my Duo Sonic neck, which currently is on a Mustang... don't want to look like a poseur or nothin :laugh2:

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

If I had one, I'd write "FENDER" really big in black magic marker.

Re: Why do people put Fender decals on their aftermarket necks?

...I've already used up enough of my fortune to buy up all the other "Slade's-a-Bitchocasters" in the world :D

*sigh* Just make sure this one's in seafoam ;)
