Why does my guitar sound so muddy?

Re: Why does my guitar sound so muddy?

Try wiring your pup directly to your output jack...no vol or tone pots, no switches. If it still sounds the same, there is definitely a problem with your guitar or your pup (hard to believe that your wood could cause so much tone suck.

If it sounds good wired straight through, then your pot is fried (this is what I suspect you'll find). Replace the pot with a new CTS 500k and wire it back up. Make sure you use a hot iron at least 40 watts to solder the pot. High heat/short time. Should be great.

I'm waiting for my Gold Squier 50's C.V. 60th Anniversary model. It already has tex mex pups 1 and 2 and a shawbucker @ the bridge. For $230 and like new. I'm searching the internet for upgrades. I saw a picture of the inside of a cheaper & thinner bodied Squier. It was made of PLYwood! You can see the layers inside the guitar. The C.V.'s are made of Alder. It sure takes a lot of patience and time to find upgrade parts that fit the Squire. I found a tremolo @ Guitar parts USA website.
