Why does my Traynor 40W sound better than Bogner?

Re: Why does my Traynor 40W sound better than Bogner?

When I was around 20 years old, I really liked my Peavey Ultra 120 over the Mesa Mark IV. My thoughts were very similar to what yours are now. It's been 15 years, and now I know the difference. My old Peaveys are still great sounding amps, but now I can understand and appreciate what the more expensive amps offer ( and I judge that with my ears and not the price tag). I couldn't live without my Mesas and if it wasn't so hard to come a Bogner in my area, the Ecstasy would be in the basement also. Enjoy the Traynor, it will serve you well...but the other amps exist for a reason.

You gotta be kidding me. What make you assume that I am 20 old years old who should know better.

Remember, a lot of people didn't need Bogner to sound right.

I saw your age (about the same as me), I just thought I would relate how I once thought the same way about my Peavey as you feel about your Traynor. I thought common sense would tell you "I can relate to your post", but I guess that isn't what you took from my reply. Sorry.

.....but, as a side note, I could see how your post could sound like it was coming from a 20 year old....

Re: Why does my Traynor 40W sound better than Bogner?

Looking at the title of the thread on my latest visit, I think I'd like to point out this one bit of semantics that might clarify things a bit:

The Traynor does not sound better than the Bogner...nor does the Bogner sound better than the Traynor. That's because there's no such thing as "better tone", only tone that you prefer to others. They sound different and you prefer the tone of one over the other.

There's nothing wrong with preferring an inexpensive amp just like there's nothing wrong with preferring an expensive one. What's not cool is gear snobbery and reverse gear snobbery. :(

You are used to it, but mostly, it is the sound in your head.

That's great Brisk. Enjoy it. It is special to own something you like.

Re: Why does my Traynor 40W sound better than Bogner?

It's like saying my LP is better than my strat. I have a Bogner, but it's so loud that I think I can't have children anymore. I've been spending more time playing my Gibson Goldtone EL-84 amp lately. It cost 1/6 the price, but I'm not playing a receipt. LOL

Aleclee and Gearjoneser, you're comments say it all.

haha, true.

I bought a soldano recently, and what do I end up using for the express purpose I bought the soldano for? -a beat up old locally made combo (studio) and my mesa blue angel (gigs). Go figure.

Re: Why does my Traynor 40W sound better than Bogner?

I got my YCV80 for $299!!! out the door used at guitar center. it is my favorite amp these days. it does a great fender style clean and a lower gain JCM 800 style crunch with a well done boost function. It is well made and very versatile.

lets not forget the loop, acutronics spring verb, all the ins and outs U need and Celstion 70/80's

now it is very bright:( and it wil never reach the likes of a JCM 800 Marshall Crunch and it will never clone the cleans of a blackface Twin perfectly. But it does both "in the style of" together pretty damn well.

would I say it sounds better than the Bogner I played last year? No, will I say i got the best all around amp for what I play for a crazy price? YES!

Bogners are Amazing but are they practical? Traynors are practical but are Amazing?

Apples and Oranges...but I love my Traynor!!!

if theres anything to sig in that post, its
but I'm not playing a receipt
that is probably one of the best things said in this forum for a while. that was a godly sentence right there, props to you!!

You should - I restrung my receipt the other day and it sounds better than ever. Receipts sound best with the Buzz Feiten system and an amp with EL34's.

BTW I think the Traynor is more fun because its cheaper. Sometiems we love our cheap stuff for the bang for the buck concept. I have an Ibanez AS80 - 335 - for a reason. It's always that guitar I love for its sound, and I don't care what happens to it. I still realize it sounds nothing like the vintage or CS ones I have played, but its close, and wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper.

All that aside, lately I play my Bogner and my receipt the most.

Re: Why does my Traynor 40W sound better than Bogner?

I bought my Traynor 40W before any of you heard of it. I bought it because it sounded good and was cheap ($430 back then). I owned a lot of amps (Marshall, Mesa, Soldano, Rivera, etc) and I tried a lot of amps including Bogner Shiva. After trying all of them, I truly feel that my Traynor sounds better than any of amps I've tried. Why is that?

Maybe I am dillusional.

I don't think your delussional..... I think your in denial!
