why does the dimebucker come with...

a neck pickup mounting ring? when it's definately supposed to be bridge pup?

It actually looks kind of cool, because the pickup has a plastic shell body around it and it raises up out of the mounting ring..

so, is it just the cosmetic design choice?

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

Hi Ghwar. We include the custom made mounting ring because it's a slightly odd size pickup for a standard mounting ring.

I hope that helps.

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

cool, thanks for the reply. i had been wondering since I got my first dimebucker for christmas, and since I just bought another one, I decided to finally ask.

I tried mounting it with the custom ring that came with it, but it didn't quite get close enough to the strings, so I squeezed it into my guitar (Jackson KV1)'s original ring and it just BARELY fit. :)

Love the chainsaw tones coming out of this thing..

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

Same problem with L500XLs, they come with a low ring with flat bottom that's no good for the bridge position of tune-o-matic guitars. And doesn't fit into Asian humbucker ring holes either.

Supposedly one of the suppliers has Les Paul bridge format rings for these suckers, but B&B seem to have nuked their mailbox in their website move.

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

I just used the ring which came with my Epiphone, and reshaped it a little to fit the Dimebucker, and everything is gruvie.

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

The Flat mounting ring works perfectly fine on guitars with tune-o-matic bridges, and arch-top guitars.

It has a custom mounting ring, because, let's face it, that pickup was made for a Dean ML.

You can put it in other types of bridges, but it's a tight fight in some cases.

No, it's just not high enough for the bridge position.

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

um, jimmy, i don't mean to be an instigator but it's really not high enough, at least in my guitar it's not.

cranked to full height it's ALMOST high enough, but the springs are totally maxed out like something is about to break.. and my guitar (Jackson) has a pretty low profile kahler bridge .. probaly half the height of a tom

(sort of related) : it wouldn't be a problem if the dimebucker had the long metal tabs like other duncan pups, but it just has plastic ones built right onto the pickup. meaning it DEFINATELY can't get high enough on tom bridges.. trust me, I tried to put one in my gibson sg (with a pickguard), it's just not possible to use the dimebucker on a TOM bridge without a bridge mounting ring. meaning if you use a Gibson SG or anything else with pickguard and a TOM, you're out of luck with the dimebucker

You're wrong. I have it in an SG with a pickguard and it's perfectly fine.

A friend of mine put a Dime in his SG with guard, and unless you like your pups super super low, it doesn't go up high enough. Maybe it's a question of your preference for low pups, but to most people I don't think you could say it goes high enough. It doesn't miss it by far though.

jimmy:

there's no "right" or "wrong" with guitars, pickups, or tones. If homie doesn't like his pickups as low as you like yours, he's not "wrong," so stop being a "dick."

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

D@mn, there's def. some hostility thing going on around here these days...
Not to mention, the first name of a certain famous book detective, Mr. Tracey, going around an awful lot...

Chill guys...

Back on topic, it is supplied because apparently, there are SOME people whose pickup rings their guitars came stock with aren't the right dimensions (be it width OR height) to do their job they way they like it...

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

To get back on topic I have a Made in West Germany (read: old) L500XL that has a tall mounting ring. Problem is, I want to mount it in a guitar with a low profile bridge (recessed OFR). With the pickup as low as the pickup mounting ring, the strings are on sitting top of the pickup with anything other than high action.

Maybe Duncan sells their smaller Dimebucker rings seperately?

Re: why does the dimebucker come with...

I'm pretty sure AllParts sells pu rings of various heights, angles and materials.

I'd throw them an e-mail (or even better, a dealer of theirs since they're notoriously slow to answer, if at all) telling them the dimensions of the pu ring I have and asking them if they had anything lower profile that'd fit...
