Why don't more players use P90's?

Re: Why don't more players use P90's?

They don't look good/right to me. IMHO. That's weak, I know.

They're right in between in limbo...

Just not my favorite style pickup.

Limbo to you, sweet spot to me... it's funny, isn't it? How different preference can swing.

I have a very high-gain rig both at rehearsal and at home, and I find that P-90s really fit what I do. To me they have all the girth and meat of a humbucker with fuller mids and the clarity/tightness of a single coil. It took me years to find that out.

Neck or bridge of my strat?

Wow, good question! What are the other pickups going to be? One humbucker or Strat single coils? I guess if it were me I'd go neck = Strat, middle = Strat, bridge = P90. Although a P90 neck and humbucker bridge might be fun too.

I was using a phat cat for a while and I loved it for clean tones and light gain, but I play with heavy distortion too often and can't afford to buy another guitar right now. It was the noise that did it. I also didn't like how the sound wasn't as thick as the sound I got from my humbuckers.

Considering that I have a full set of Texas Hot's with the custom bridge. Just for the sake of trying out a P-90 I'd leave it in there with two singles. But, what if I tried a P90 in the neck . I'm one of the few guys who actually like the bridge pickup in a strat, hence I don't really want to take the THCB out. However, I'm always willing to experiment1: P-90 neck, TH, THCB. Sounds kinda crazy. hmmm. Clearly I need a second strat. ;)
