Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

Don't blame Fender, blame Musician's Friend. That's one of their special runs built just for them. Won't find it in the regular Fender lineup. It's been around for a couple years now, both HSS and SSS versions. It's way darker than a traditional Strat. As it is a normal AM DLX Strat is darker and more modern sounding with the noiseless pickups. Add mahogany to that and you get a way darker tone than a traditional Strat.

It's not on Fender's website, sure, but where are you finding definitive proof that it's made specifically for Musicians Friend? I find it odd that it's not listed on Fender's website (am I just not seeing it?)

Have you seen it anywhere else other than on the MF/GC or M123 site? Every "BUY" link on any other site I've seen on that guitar takes you to MF's site to make the purchase. M123 is part of MF BTW as of 2/2007. You will not find special runs for MF/GC/M123 on Fender's site anywhere.

Just as you don't find the 2 pickup Melody Maker on Gibsons's website.

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

i'd dig it more if it had a 24.75" scale neck in all maple with a HSH setup, patb3 bridge, tex mex middle, and a2 pro humbucker neck

cause that's exactly what i want

It's a special run (or runs maybe as it's been around since about 2005 now) built just for Musician's Friend/Guitar Center. It used to be listed as such on MF's website and it has been advertised as such in the monthly Guitar Center catalogs. There was at one time an SSS version available too although I've seen the HSS advertised far more often. It's been around for awhile now though, the last time I saw it listed in a catalog was sometime early 2006 I think.

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

i own this one. the mohogany body really gives it a unique tone. it really is a classic in the making, but the tex-mex pickups and dh-1 have to go. they do no justice for the guitar at all.

dimarzios are a good choice for this axe as dimarzio pickups just seem to sound better on mohogany guitars. if you don't choose the right pups, it might sound kind of nasally and compressed, and you will have a tough time dialing in the right midrange. it won't sound as bright as an alder strat. you will want to replace the 250k pots too.

i love this guitar and won't sell it. i actually got mine for $800 flat from guitar center new. eat your heart out.

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

gee... how many guitars do you own?

Not many like some of the big dogs around here. I have two Wolfgangs, an american strat and an ovation. I just bought the strat on ebay for 700 bucks and turnd around and put 2 surfers and a jb in it so if I say I want another guitar she would be pissed.

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

Let her be pissed....I never bother with that myself...
Hehe tell her not to buy so many shoes or what ever tendency she has:D
Sharp strat!
No mahogany strat bodies are not dark, they have a great middy bite instead.

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

this is a guitar center/musicians friend exclusive, but let me tell you about another one that will blow your mind...

there is one that you MIGHT still be able to find at some obscure guitar center. it's all black with an ebony fretboard. there are no fretboard markers, the guitar, pickguard, headstock, are all black. it's so friggin sweet. unfortunatley, after playing one i decided to go home and think about it. there were two left in the store. i was up that night thinking about it and consequently travelled back to that store to buy it and some S.O.B. bought both of them. one was on layaway and i actually waited the 30 days to see if there was still a chance.

i missed that one and i wish i would have bought it that same day. what a piece. i wish fender had one of those stock.

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

The Strat Plus models in the late 80's and in to the 90's had the Ebony board, or was it the Deluxe Plus models? One of those two did. Great playing and sounding Strats. About the only ebony board guitars I liked then.

Re: Why Fender... WHY!!!!!

Ebony??? On a strat...that is not all that nice, mahogany on the other hand is nice for a strat...dunno why they do not use more as it is??

I find it great on an HSS Strat, particularly for the H.
