Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

i'm totaly sold to jacksons.. i'm saving up and selling my stuff to get me a king V in lovely amber sunburst.. it's THE metal guitar .. looks like it's on fire too

i played ibanez guitars and no.. not for me to say the least
havent got my hands on a charvel yet
played fenders but they are far too expencive (if i want to go USA, they dont order japanese here) nice guitars though, but very expencive to mod
epi/gibson lovely guitas, but i'm looking for something more metal looking. good bang for the buck
the esp's i played (m-2, the SC signature and some other superstrats) are nice enough, but they offer nothing here that i couldnt get cheaper

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

That's why I have both. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. Some days the MIJ sounds the best, some days the USA sounds best, some days the LP sounds best. Can't explain why. Right now the USA is #1. Next week it'll probably be the Gibbie.

However, the Jackson sticker is in my car window.

Oh, and we forgot to mention Jenna.

Jenna's ALL about diversity. She's into all kinds of woods and headstocks.

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

hence why this guitar company is called "jackson" and not "killyourscene's".

apparently many people like jacksons now. if you dont, then buy esp's. if you like ibanez's, buy ibanez's. jackson isnt known for making basses, and they dont make basses (almost, lol)

other than this i completely agree with zerb

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

I wonder why Ford doesn't make a truck that drives like Chevy.

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

I'll repeat my original point - There are successful guitar companies that produce MANY DIFFERENT STYLES of guitars. It's weird people would say "If you don't like a Jackson, go play something else". Why do almost all Jacksons fall into the same category?

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

most likely because guitar players are conservative. they like things in little compartments: fenders look like *this*, gibsons sound like *this*...any deviation sends them into fits. this gets so bad, that some have resorted to hoarding the *exact same* guitar over and over. we must not have anything new, ever.

because they are guitars intended for metal and ONLY metal ... why does bc rich fall into the same category?
why should they change if they're successfull at what they do? why didnt gibson change their guitars in their last 50 years? because they like what they do and they are successfull at it

if you got a problem with them buy yourself an esp for ****s sake..

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

However heated Davey's latest message may be, I agree with him... the whole point of this topic killyourscene could be argued with every pretty much every other single guitar company out there.

Tisk! Tisk! Tisk!...............
Didn't any of your mothers teach you the saying,
"To each is own" ? haha

I guess the forum would be dull without a little dissagreeing, and termoil. But i'm still a Jackson guy and will be untill the end.

Well, if you don't like Jacksons, don't play Jacksons. :laugh2:
Jackson does one thing, and they do it well.

Although i'd like to see more Jacksons with fised bridges. I despise floyds.

because people buy them

Actually, they aren't doing so well in that department. ESP does a lot better in sales.

Anyway, sorry if I've made people mad. I'm not trying to start a flame war or create any animosity. I'm basically just trying to advocate open-mindedness and willingness to try something different.

You pro-Jackson guys do make some good arguments, though. I still say Jacksons are universally high quality guitars and they're the thing to get if you like the super-strat style.

Thanks for your opinions.

You're damn right. That's exactly how it is and I think that's kind of a shame.

imo ESP has better sales because many people (correction: many well known people) play them in the first place.. metallica, deftones, slayer, mustaine etc

and then people buy em cos they want to have the same guitar as their hero and want the same sound (this kind of people greatly outnumbers folks that buy their guitar for playability, and for their own needs, a guitar that suits them)

you can also say that for ibanez...

just my take

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

jackson is more for the shredder kind of guitarist. Hence the trems etc... Me i like fenders and gibsons alot thats about it for me guess im a snob hahahha

Re: Why I'm frustrated with Jackson

I'm not too familiar with the current fender/jackson line in detail, but consider this:

The seeming basswood/poplar preference that Jackson has is to do with the roots of the company. Grover Jackson built a pile of different strat bodies back in the early 80s to compare tonal differences, and came to the conclusion that he liked basswood the best. After that, he started building basswood bodied charvel strats for players like Allan Holdsworth, George Lynch (who hated his) and Steve Vai. I'm not sure why Jackson started using poplar, but a lot of the Jackson superstrats from the 80s were poplar bodied, including my friend's custom order '88 dinky.

So in a way, poplar and basswood are traditional charvel/jackson tonewoods in the same way that mahogany could be considered a traditional gibson tonewood. In fact, considering Grover Jackson's pivotal role in promoting basswood as a premium tonewood, you could consider all upscale basswood bodied guitars owe their lineage to jackson to some degree.

The lack of models made in other woods is simply the result of jackson playing to their strengths. It's partially nostalgia market conservatism, of course, but they are a business after all. They have a job to sell guitars to washed up hair rockers and black jersey/black jeans/white high-top thrash revivalists.

Considering that, they do some very cool 'other' stuff, like the PRS-level Swee-tones and the surfcaster. That's more adventurous than many manufacturers.

I only use Jackson guitars and I do not fit either of those two descriptions.
