Why is a PAF Pro so bright?

I can agree with that - more pronounced in the bridge. The enhanced highs stand out more when in the neck, or you notice them more.

Wire gauge.

Number of turns of wire on the bobbins probably isn't the same, but I doubt there's more than like a 10% difference, like, say, a JB would be 200%+.

I'm not saying it's a lot like a Seth, FWIW. I'm just saying it could be a lot more different.

I played a PAF Pro for like 10 years and now I use real PAFs. Wire doesn't cut it.

Gotcha...my Music Man Silhouette Special came with a stock Virtual PAF in it, as well as 2 Blue Velvets, and I realized I knew nothing about them.

I haven't had the guitar long enough to form an opinion, but these guitars are easy enough to swap out pickguards on.

A DiMarzio acronym. That's why I use to write "P.A.F." instead when it comes to talk about the real thing.

The only thing that defines a P.A.F is it has the right sticker on the back. A Gibson humbucker from 55 to 62 is a P.A.F. An SH-55 is as close to being a Patent Applied For Pickup as a PAF Pro is.

Gibson made so many humbuckers from 55 to 62 with QC so loose they may have had their eyes closed. It is all but certain that there is a real P.A.F somewhere out there that sounds exactly like a PAF Pro.

Nah, PAF Joe is an underwound PAF Pro with the Virtual Vintage thing.

Sorta. 8.4k vs 8.27. Thats not much different.

Its slightly lower powered. 275 vs 300mv

Its supposedly brighter by dimarzio's ratings as well, but I dont hear it.

To me, the biggest difference is in the attack. The paf joe is smoother. That has to be the warmer highs and mids of the VV tech.

It is the polar opposite of the full shred neck in that sense.

Put it this way, if the paf pro is the modern version, the paf joe is the classic version.
