Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

I still don't understand why double cream pickups are such a big deal.

I agree, I only like them in a White Superstrat like a Charvel (no pickguard)

But again, if other pickup manufacturers thought it was worthwhile and profitable they would challenge it in court.

You still don't understand who the victim is. This stupid trademark doesn't do any significant harm to SD. SD is still bigger than DiMarzio (maybe because they spend their money on products, not lawyers).

The only group suffering from this trademark is the consumer. The consumer has choice removed. They can't have the pickups that sound the way they want in the colors they want. It is simply anti-competitive.

With all due respect, I find it hard to see consumers as "suffering"...I want a Warmoth body that is a Les Paul shape and neck with a Gibson headstock but I can't–how am I "suffering" from that? There are plenty of options here and no one is suffering–inconvenienced yes but not suffering.

Does this affect the consumer? Yes. But with anti-trust laws in place, Seymour Duncan going to court would like Microsoft going after really anyone in the late 90's/early '00s.

Oh yeah? Show me how I can have a double cream Ant humbucker then?

And if not, who's fault is that?

Definition of Suffering: "the state of undergoing pain, distress, or hardship."

uOpt not able to get his wittle pickup in the color he wants is not suffering.

This is suffering:

See the difference?

You really sound like a kindergarten child crying because Susie has cream crayons and you only have off-white and tan.

I get the point & it's wonderful if the biggest problem in your life is a pup colour,
but you can suffer from a common cold & you can suffer from ebola it's all about context & degrees of suffering,I know which I'd rather suffer from, however it's still suffering.

But like I said buy some model paint & masking tape ffs

So not getting the color you want is suffering...wow

A cold and ebola all involve pain. Not getting one specific color does not involve any pain–disappointment yeah, but not pain.

Imagine how much suffering all of those people endured under Ford's reign of terror only building black cars? SMH

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

I think double cream is butt-ugly.

However, if I ever get to make p'ups commercially, they'll be covered only, but double-cream underneath.

 :9:

Look, I think DiMarzio's trademark is fair enough to be legitimate, but that's just a straight up logical fallacy (Fallacy of Relative Privation), and you're putting words into their mouths to make them look bad. Stop. Pick a better argument than "but the starving kids in Africa!", because that is a BS argument pulled straight from orifices. That's not how to conduct a fair argument.

Nope, didn't put words in their mouth--uOpt said consumers are suffering by lack of cream pickups not made by DMZ.

What is truly BS is grown men throwing a hissy fit over not getting the exact color they want in a pickup. I would expect this immature behavior from my 3 year old god daughter NOT a grown man...it's a freakin color.

Vehicles only come in certain colors, if you want a specific color not offered by the manufacturer then you buy it and have it repainted. Others in this thread have shown how tea, coffee, cigarettes and even shoe polish can turn a white/tan pickup into a darn good convincing cream.

I've seen people truly suffering and pickup color is most definitely not a case of suffering (again, his choice of words, not mine.)

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

This is definitely a conjecture and kinda personal. How did you get that? Both companies are private and their financials aren't available for public. Even if you arrived at your conclusion based on artist roster, you can't deny that most virtuoso guitarists with big impact on the development of guitar techniques for the last 20 years use DiMarzio (Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Satriani, Steve Morse, Petrucci, Greg Howe, even Tony MacAlpine who once adorned Seymour's ad in the nineties. The list goes on).

DiMarzio has been working with the same permanently hired law firm for decades. They do all their trademark and patent law through them. This is being discussed with names and lawsuits at least every 18 months.

Somehow I have a hunch that the firm doesn't do it for free. Of course you can add your own interpretation.

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

Jeff Beck was my favorite guitarist when he came to the Grande Ballroom in Detroit with the Jeff Beck Group in 1967...maybe 1968. I went all three nights.

He was making his way across the dance floor and walking towards the stage cradling this Les Paul in his arms when I spied him.

I walked up and said “Hi Jeff! You’re my favorite guitarist...can I shake your hand?”

He laughed and said “Oh! That’s great!”

He switched that 50’s Les Paul to his left hand, stuck out his right and we shook hands.

I forget what else we said but the band was fabulous that night. Best show I’d ever seen.

That Les Paul had double cream humbuckers and I eventually found one like it. A ‘59. Sent it to Gibson for a refret around 1970 and they ruined it. I sold it.

Anyways, double creams are my favorites and I don’t like any Dimarzios I’ve owned.

I do now have some double cream Seth Lovers in my favorite PRS Custom 22. I always remove the covers, and sometimes you get lucky.

Here’s what Jeff looked like that night. I guess this was his stage outfit.
