Because when all strings are off, I can clean my guitar better. :22:

yeah, i like being able to do that too. the only one i dont take em all off is my one with the kahler for obvious reasons. but with that i can just press the bar way down so the strings are really loose and get a rag under there to clean it. so alls well.

Oh man, one time I took all the strings off my friend's Ibanez RG, with their crappy "I wish I was Floyd Rose" tremelo, to put on a HEAVIER SET of strings. By the time the strings were on and in tune, the bridge was almost at a 90° angle from the body. This is when I learned...friggin one string at a time.

The way I see it, my guitar set up is a work in progress. It takes a while to get it EXACTLY right. You have to balance the truss rod, bridge height, intonation, and pickup height. One small variance and the guitar can really play or sound noticabley different. I always make little tweaks here and there to address things as they arise or to fine-tune.

In my experience, changing one string at a time is the least intrusive way to go. When I have been forced to take off all strings for whatever reason, the guitar has rarely been EXACTLY the same.

As a matter of fact if your guitar takes a bit of a hit (or falls) that can change the action QUITE a bit.

So I change one string at a time. The guitar LIKES all that tension on the neck to be constant, and this way all my preferences are not f*cked with.

You'd be amazed at how much things can change when you release all the tension from a neck and take all the pressure off a bridge.
