Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

I can't listen to AC/DC for more than about 25 minutes, for the same reason that I can't listen to the Police for extended periods of time. So no SG gas for me.
You will grow to love AC/DC as you mature ,I didn't rate them when I was 22 - not doing enough ,only 3 chords blah blah ,now I really like them

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

Spent part of yesterday playing one of those 60's Tribute SG's into a Tube Screamer amp. Real good match up! No I'm gassing big time hehe

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

I can understand the brain fatigue listening toACDC songs for an extended period of time. Especially the played to death songs.

But I never tire of Angus' playing or tone, nor Malcom's.

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

I can listen to everything with Bon Scott over and over, everything after can get old.

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

I love it all. But their live sound on the last tour was awful.

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

Thru Back in Black AC/DC is up there with the greatest of them all, after that they can wear me down a bit. A lot of the humor in the lyrics went away and Brian's voice gets tiresome. Not that they don't have their moments but I'll make my own playlists out of those records as opposed to listening to the whole thing usually.

No matter what though Mal and Angus always sound righteous.

The only time I saw them live was the NYC RnR Hall of Fame celebration show at the Roseland Ballroom. They sounded incredible that night, Brian's voice was "on" and they were on fire.

I am a little bit of a Bon fan just so you know

Thats way cool!

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

I still kind of want to try some Filtertrons in my SG, even though some people tell me it would be a disaster! ;)

Go find a "Gretsch Corvette", that basically IS an SG with Filters in it!

Mine came stripped, they're supposed to have 2 filtertrons and a Bigsby B-50. But it's a thin-body, mahogany plank that sounds F-in' AWESOME. THey're 100% as good as a "real" SG and cost about what an Epi SG goes for.

Sorry, they're $629 this week at Sweetwater. Mine was a trade for a $100 guitar though, but seriously this thing is the best guitar I've ever owned. 2-piece solid mahogany body, set neck, I can't stop raving about it apparently.

Yeah me too. My wife bought me this baby 12 years ago it still plays like the day it came out of the case.

Ooooh, another SG Special like mine.;) What year is yours? Mine appears to be a 1991. Does yours have rosewood fretboard? Mine is ebony and it feels fantastic.:)

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

No doubt that Angus has a great tone, but make no mistake about it; it's Malcolm that drives that band. Angus plays great solos and runs around like a maniac; Angus stands quietly in the background and lays down those great rhythm parts...he's the MVP in my book.

And don't forget some other great SG players: Tommy Iommi and Derek Trucks--they are both amazing.

I want one of the '62 VOS Reissue SGs SO BAD, but...I have a problem with SGs. I'm a big guy, and they just look like a toy on me! LOL! I might as well be playing a uke!

Years ago, probably c. 1970-71, a buddy of mine came over to jam. He had a new bat-wing guard SG with the vibrola; I had bought a used 1968 ash-bodied Tele Thinline with the Tele pickups and a Bigsby. Of course we had to try each other's guitar--and the truth was, we couldn't hand them back fast enough! LOL! He was a Gibson guy and I was a Fender guy and that was that!

So I have my Les Pauls now, and my 335s, but even though I want an SG I don't know if I could pull the trigger on one. Yes, iconic--great word.

Mine is a 2002 with rosewood. The neck is heaven and the tone is sublime. There is something about a SG is just feels right.

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

Because you don't realize that what you really want is a Gretsch Jet Firebird.

I have an SG, and love it . . .

. . . and now i want a Gretsch G6128T DCM - see below !

Something magical happens when you have a two guitar band, and both Gretsch & SG goes into cranked JTM 45's.

Another reason why i love Nashvile Pvssy.

Another GREAT guitarist / SG user :

Re: Why is it whenever I hear an ACDC song, I want an SG?

As a Gibson SG Standard player, I'm politely asking you to stop drinking the AC/DC fanboy kool-aid. Any Gibson guitar worth it's salt will get you the tone.

Hell man, My firebird gets close and it's not the guitar you picture when you read AC/DC!

I haven't had GAS in ages, but that thing...

Strange how we all differ !

I loved them ever since i was 16'ish.

And today, they are one of my fav bands.

I LOVE their Black Ice album, and can only wish they do even MORE slide driven songs on their next album !!!

I don't think it's a case of him, or indeed others, not liking the band per se (some may, though) and any kind of lack of maturity. I'm sure almost everywhere here, myself included, have a great deal of respect for their influence and appreciate the guitar playing talent in AC/DC.
I enjoy songs that have half an entire song/long sections or even just entire songs that are much more minimalistic (not 'punk, even more so minimal) than AC/DC, so it's not the ' not doing enough ,only 3 chords blah blah' aspect either, at least not for me anyway. Again, I don't think most people here on the forum have a problem with simple-ish music.

I love listening to music over and over again, however it's because I'm particularly in the mood to listen to that music and I've chosen to listen to that music.
When you have to hear AC/DC blaring from a TV ad, in a music store, someone has it blaring on their phone while on the train, you're in someone's car and it's on the radio and well, just hearing it everywhere even when I don't want to hear it/not in the mood for it.
If someone else enjoys listening to it at home, that's great and I have no issue with that, but for me it's just worn so thin for me that I can't ever be at home and want to ever deliberately listen to them.

Ace!

OP: I hear ya. I always wanted one too until I tried one ages ago. For the very first feel I realised it's not for me, I'm more into the LP. Later I really fell in love with Malcolm's Gretsch. In many ways it was a template design for my own Warmoth LPS. Not the sound or set-neck construction but the captivating rawness.

A couple of years ago I heard a cover band playing Back in Black. The tone was perfectly nailed with some Squier Telecaster with humbuckers and a Line6 Spider amp. The player was stellar and faithful, he was the key. It was a humiliating experience in a way.
