Hello,
Im loveing my SL2h, flawless. I was woundering why the trans blue model is so much more money. Just because of the finish?
Thanks guys

Yes... most of the time transparent finishes are more expensive than solid ones. They are harder to apply also the wood underneath them since it can be seen needs to be nicer. So its not unusual at all for there to be a up-charge for a transparent finish

Are the solid colors still Maple tops?

The maple top on a Jackson is a veneer. Years ago they used to apply the veneer over the tops of all their guitars to cover up the glue seam of the neck and body wings, I don't know if that's still the case.

+1. The more visible the wood is, the better it has to look, and the more expensive it will be to the manufacturer and to you. Solid opaque colors are easy, doesn't matter what the wood looks like or how it's pieced together. Leaves a lot of leeway.

All trans finishes have a premium over the solid colors.

It has less to do with the finish than it does with having to use good / clear wood under that finish.

You can get away with a 5 piece body on an opaque finish, but not on a translucent finish - so you have to use bigger contiguous wood, which is more expensive.

No, it's not the case. My Bengal SL2H, if you look closely you can see the seems.

Maybe for a black finish they still do this because it would really stand out.

I got a couple you can faintly see the seams on the back of.
