Why no DC LP Bodies?

I just finished a guitar build (assembly really) and I already have the itch to start another one. I was thinking something like a double-cut LP style with humbuckers... I've even come up with a vision for it:

However, since my woodworking skills are comparable to those of a small child, I need to purchase a body. Why is it that it seems like everyone in the world is knocking off Strat & Tele bodies, but no one seems to do LPs... especially the double cuts? Frustrating! :17::banghead:

They have a couple of standard LP bodies, but no double-cuts. I've seen a couple in their factory clearance section, but not often and right now their pickings are kind of slim.

That's a good question. I've seen quite a few double cut kit on the net, but I've rarely seen just the bodies for sale.

Re: Why no DC LP Bodies?

I always counted PRS as double cut Les Paul
Because that's kinda what they are

I've seen a couple of those, and they're definitely in the running as similar if I can't find something closer to the real thing. :fing2:

I don't know. They could be all booked up for Christmas and all, but every kit that I clicked on their website says that they're out of stock.

Well, I don't have to be in a hurry... just in the planning phase at this point. Just wanted to get an idea of what I'll have to spend. I wonder if that neck is any good?

Hmmm... not bad. I wonder if they'd do it for two humbuckers instead of just the single P90? [emoji848]

Precision guitar kits will do double humbucker on their 58 or 59 double cut style bodies.

My best guess is because most parts guitars are designed around bolt on necks and there's no real neck pocket on a DC LP unless you go with a long tenon which means building a neck that won't fit in other bodies.

Re: Why no DC LP Bodies?

If you're looking for a glue in style, for sure you want the matching shaped neck. Precision, whilst being forced to abandon precise Gibson shapes, is still the best bet as their quality of wood and workmanship is still as good as ever.

Re: Why no DC LP Bodies?

As to why, Gibson has probably been dishing out cease and desist orders more fervently over the past 3 or 4 years. Warmoth used to make DCs, but cancelled all their Gibson shapes and only slowly started reintroducing their almost-alikes. Precision also had to hide their exact Gibson bodies for a while, too. Not sure what they did to appease the lawyers, but I think the Precision kit is your best bet.

Re: Why no DC LP Bodies?

Get a basic normal and find a skilled wood worker to do the double cut. It shouldn't cost much at all especially if you don't take it to a luthier haha.

Did you check out the rest of the site ?
[h=2]Who’s behind the Site?[/h] My name’s Marty, I’m based in Australia. While our guitars are manufactured in China, I’ll be the person you are dealing with if you have any questions or require after sales support.

Re: Why no DC LP Bodies?

If you step up your game , Warmoth has the Dbl Cuts for assembly. Won't be cheap like the GFS stuff.

I looked through the Warmoth site but didn't see any double-cuts except the typical Strat shaped ones and a couple more that weren't really what I was looking for as well (although the Diamondback is a pretty cool look). I'm looking for a more symmetrical look than anything I saw there. If I missed something, though, I'd appreciate a link.

Hmmmm... that's worthy of some thought...

No, actually, I hadn't yet. I just sent them an email to see if they're still in business, since literally everything is out of stock on the site.
