I'm surprised that SD is not selling such a popular single coil combination as a set, or better yet as a loaded pickguard. It will save money for customers and it will be an easy solution for people who don't want to soldier or just want to easy try this set. They don't like it? The put their old pickguard back, that easy :-)

Re: Why no ssl-2n ssl-2m ssl-6b as a set?

Is it that popular?

How popular is even two SSL-1 and an SSL-5?

Re: Why no ssl-2n ssl-2m ssl-6b as a set?

Both of those are pretty popular...I don't know why there aren't more loaded pickguards available. If I had a signature one, it would be either a 2 humbucker CC & APH-1 or an HSS 59/Custom Hybrid, Five Two and Classic Strat Stack with all positions hum cancelling.

The loaded pickguard approach is a good one I think considering what a shop might charge to install. Just look at the popularity of prewired harnesses.

Re: Why no ssl-2n ssl-2m ssl-6b as a set?

Just by looking at all the recommendations for this set in the forum, I can conclude it's a popular configuration.
Nothing new from SD to develop, just a package of existing products. They can make more money for little effort.

Someone still has to assemble it, and then you have to market it- it probably just isn't about taking existing parts. Bringing any product to market is a multi-person, mult-hour/day effort, even products you assemble into a new form.

Yes but they already offer loaded pickguard (California 50s, Classic, Jimmy, Yngwie, etc) and sets. Just a question of swapping an SSL1-2 with and SSL5-6.

Maybe they offer Shop Floor Customs in their pickguards? Either way, you have to stop production of something that exists to make a one-off for someone. Or, if you plan on making more, and coming out with an actual product in the production line, there are a lot more steps before that comes to market.

It almost doesn't matter what thr company packages in a set such as that. A lot of people who "just want an upgrade" and aren't nitpicky will snatch up whatever Seymour Duncan packages (giving tacit approval to the combination.) Most people want a hotter bridge pickup and more "vintage"/cleaner neck.
