Why no talk about PATB-3?

Re: Why no talk about PATB-3?

Looks like an over-circumcized Demon with odd staples... and being the sig of an unknown artist with the most flaming gay name ever probably doesn't help

If they just called it a Circumsized Demon, they'd surely do better

The Demon sounds circumsized compared to the PATB-3

Re: Why no talk about PATB-3?

I'm still lost on "over-circumsized", you either have a foreskin or you don't.

But I've always thought that there should be a few more PATB options. I'm tempted to order an A8 59/C with the PA polepieces hidden away from the eye under a smooth nickel silver cover.

Good luck with that. The physical Parallel Axis format is Trembucker, and there are currently no solid-looking covers for it, and as it's a proprietary format, your order most probably will get turned down by the Custom Shop.

Unknown? He's an amazing guitar player that's been around for a long time (maybe you should look him up). And that's his real name his parents gave him when he was born. Maybe his circumcision leftovers are what became known as Adieu.

I figured I'd probably have to get the local jeweler or something to do the cover (I'd just need to spec it out for him), but the BYOP page on the Custom Shop website list Parallel Axis as an option.

...and there's probably a really awesome dude somewhere out there named Dick Wienermayer, who also through no fault of his own alas makes for an unfortunate product namesake

Re: Why no talk about PATB-3?

Knock it off with the snipey insults. It is a pickup discussion, so let's get back to that.

Re: Why no talk about PATB-3?

I had a Carvin that was alittle thin sounding. I purt a PATB3 in the bridge and it made the guitar sound nice and fat.

Adieu, I only pop into the forums a couple times per week, but what I can always count on is coming across a rude, pessimistic, non-constructive post from you on nearly every good thread. Keep your negative attitude to yourself or go away!

"flaming gay"...seriously? How is that not cause for an infraction?

Back to the topic, the PATB-3 is an awesome pickup. Its looks aren't for everyone, but it's one of the best sounding pickups Duncan makes!

I actually have a NOS first-year MJ-wound PATB-3 that I've been hanging onto for a while.

Can't quite bring myself to get rid of it, because it's such a cool pickup, but I don't currently have a guitar to put it in, either!

First-world problems for sure, LOL!

Re: Why no talk about PATB-3?

Possibly the hot PAF rage died off . Around 2006 I wanna say it was prohibited to even bring up a hot PAF topic. If I remember correctly the Brobucker was created because of the demand for a hot PAF from Duncan . I haven’t used the PATB3 in years but it was a great pickup , I preferred it over the Brobucker

Interesting... I think you maybe be right on the hot PAF observation. I don't see that much of talk about the Saturday Night Sp. as well (9.40K A4... not that different when compared with a Brobucker). Back in the day, it would have been very popular I think.

I still love each of my 3 Brobuckers tho... more than PATB-3.

Re: Why no talk about PATB-3?

Perfect pickup in a Floydcaster IMO. Full & sweet, and great under gain. I had a 59 and an old T-top in mine for many years and with the PATB-1n and PATB-3 the guitar became noticeably beefier, without any congested overcompressed/overwound tonality. Bought the STK for middle position too but I haven't put it in yet.

I think Blues Saraceno had a signature guitar from the Samick guitar company in the 1990's. I think it was either Alder or Basswood with a floyd bridge and maple neck? I've been eyeballing this pickup for awhile but thought it would be TOO fat. This thread has taught me a lot. I love Blues Saraceno and his first three albums were a BIG influence on me. his tone was SWEET. His dad built his amplifier called the "Dirty Boy" I believe.

His dad had an electronics company called Dirty Boy that made and sold the Afro Fuzz pedal . . . which I think was an inspiration for SD's Tweak Fuzz.
