Why spend a fortune on a Plexi when stuff like this is available?

Unless you're a collector, I could see the point in owning a vintage plexi then, but check this out:

and I'm sure there are plenty of other amp builders that do the same thing. If you're a player and want the plexi tone you can get a new amp for much less and it'll be far more reliable.

Sorry GJ :)

I can vouch for Voodoo Amps. I've been in their shop since it's within driving distance from me. Trace is a top notch kinda guy, very friendly and will answer all of your questions and their amps are nothing short of amazing. If you ever wanted a good amp or mod done, there is no second guessing with those guys.

Xeromus, since you live near Voodoo, have you had a chance to play a V-plex? They sound great through the sound clips they have but, do they sound that damn good in person? I assume that they would I am really gassing for one!!!!!!

You know what would be really cool, if I pulled the trigger on one and I made numerous posts about it. I would do it just to make Jonereer Jones even more!!!:laugh2: :laugh2:

they feel and sound, respond like a real plexi. It's about as close as you can get.

I would have to get one with a post phase inverter master volume though!!!

Yep. The "plexi" tone is accurately represented by several boutique companies. Fargen, THD, and Germino come to mind. The prices for authentic plexi's are much more expensive than any of these choices and they will all do their job without breaking the bank.

The THD Flexi is NOT a plexi clone. They made a huge mistake when they named the amp that because of all the misconceptions now.

The dirty sound clips sounded good, but I was really amazed at how the clean clips sound :saeek:

Re: Why spend a fortune on a Plexi when stuff like this is available?

i have a voodoo amp modded dsl100. 10x better then a regular dsl imo. Trace was also very helpful.

It might not be a "clone" per se, but it definitely cops that vibe. You can't listen to it and say "JCM 800" or "Mesa Dual Recto". I've gotten tons of vintage tons out of it and I don't even own the thing.

Germino and Fargen are very good choices if you want an amazing clone without a lot of money. Fargen makes stuff like the Mini-Plex for those that want similar tone without having to worry about getting arrested for disturbing neighborhoods.

You really can't go wrong with Trace from Voodoo, his reputation speaks for itself :)

yeah I can agree with that. Last time I talked to trace I had some questions about stuff and he said just come on down with your amp and we'll see what we can do with it, we can do it while you're there.

Re: Why spend a fortune on a Plexi when stuff like this is available?

Speaking of highend amps, I've been told that Fargen is releasing the mother of all amps, called the VOS. They'll have them at that amp show in Los Angeles in May.

The best boutique plexi I've ever had was made by Blues Pearl, under a different branded name, Brittone. I sold it though. As much as I like these types of amps, but unless you use that 60's tone ALL the time, it's kind of a dated/one trick pony type of sound. I don't mean it as an insult because it is a great sound.....just kinda limiting.

Dont know anything about MOJO right ? :D

If they have the cash to spend on a vintage Plexi, why not ?
If money is an issue, then, LOTS of fantastic repros out there!

BTW, I should received my Plexi 100 board from Ray D (aka Smallbox) next week. Then my transformers (OT and PT) from www.marstran.com ... Im ordering a chassis from WeberVST... should be completed my May.
