Re: Wide Post Two Point Trem...

I said "please."

Hey, you think I got bad stuff to say about RG's...??? You should hear me rip on Les Paul's...!!!

Oh, and yep, my Gio is a total TOTAL P.O.S., and will struggle to ever be worth as much as your RG; even if I took it to a professional luthier to have some ridiculous custom work done to it. So, again, you're right, dude! I'm not arguing with you. I'm actually agreeing with you!!!

To each his own I suppose.

Exactly...!!! I totally TOTALLY agree with you! I think that every guitar that Jimmy Page ever played on a Led Zeppelin album totally TOTALLY sucks. But hey, Jimmy Page gets to make decisions on his own. Am I comparing myself to Jimmy Page...??? NO, because I have better taste in guitars!!!

Do I actually think that way...!?!

No. It's all a matter of personal preference.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pick up a PRS with some Seymour Duncan Invaders because I have a limited ability to tolerate the Powersounds in my Gio...

Re: Wide Post Two Point Trem...

Thank you for proving what an asshat you are.
Yes, your Gio is a POS....perfect match for its owner.
Do us all a favor and log off the forum and don’t return.

Re: Wide Post Two Point Trem...

Gransen, I can see the method to your madness.

Also, I don't blame you for feeling a little challenged by what was posted earlier. Please don't think that is typical of these forums...it's not and we're glad to have you here.

Truth be told, you could do a lot worse than upgrading your Gio if you like the feel, way it plays, etc. In other words, if its something you're planning on keeping for a good long time, then forget what anyone else thinks!

Obviously, if resale for profit was a concern, you would potentially be better off buying a little more expensive guitar, but I can relate to your desire to tinker and make a cheap guitar cool and personal for not a whole lot of money.

You can pick up those Schaller trems for under $100, also. Maybe less if you make an offer:

If you look back at posts 16/18 and everything prior you can see that I was nothing but respectful and attempted to be helpful. For NO reason this guy ripped into me and you’re going to take his side here....really??? You can see why he might feel “challenged”...really??
Wow...thanks a lot bro.
Long time member get pushed aside in favor of the rude-ass new guy that can’t play nice.

masta' c...

What I'm thinking on this guitar is that it's a keeper. It's just something that's setup different than my other guitars, mostly based on string gauges and neck shape.

I bought this Gio because I was curious and figured that I couldn't really lose money on it (not much anyhow), and next thing I know, the thing just feels sweet in my hands. You know that "rumbly" feeling that you get out of a body guitar...??? This thing "rumbles" better than my PRS with the same tone woods and a set neck!!! The PRS has SD Invaders, so it totally sounds better, but it just doesn't have that "rumble." Not like this Gio.

That translates into confidence when playing.

That turns into frustration because it just doesn't sound right. Then I get nit-picky...even though the thing stays in tune way better than you'd expect, I hate tuning it because the tuners are junk, and the plastic nut has to go too. Next thing you know, that bridge needs to go too. And then I'm wondering what pups to go with...

While there is so much you dont like

A new graphite nut is $10
A set of good locking tuners is around $50
Another bridge probably around $40

I know you like the neck and "rumble"
But I have a Basswood RG2 hardtail that is one of my favorites too
It has locking tuners and Duncan pickups that I have added

I got it new for $200 and added about $300 in upgrades
Like you, I can feel the resonance as I play mine and I like it

Be aware that the upgrades you make may be more than the value of the guitar

Sing it to me, bruthah...!!!

(One way to read your post is this: "Be aware that the upgrades you make ARE ALLOWED to be more than the value of the guitar.")

Or exactly like I wrote it

Either or

Have fun

Bro, I'm not pushing you aside. But you need to look at the conversation from a different angle...

By post 18, you were writing him off, telling him what he should do and doing what could easily be construed as bragging about your own wares, rather than listening to what he was actually saying...

In post 17, he made it clear that he bought a cheap guitar as a project with the intention of modifying it. He likes the way the core instrument feels and plays and wants the experience of messing with it, customizing it and making it nice.

He made it clear that he doesn't necessarily care about resale and he wasn't looking to spend nearly as much as you spent on the guitar you showed him.

Also, in post 17, he says multiple times that "you're right", so he understood where you were coming from.

Your advice wasn't bad at all, but you dismissed nearly everything he had said when you posted the pic of your own guitar and essentially said "look what you could have instead", which, as it turns out, isn't the kind of guitar the OP is after at all!

Re: Wide Post Two Point Trem...

I don't think either of you were "in the wrong". To me, it wasn't clear why you seemed to be dismissing him and posting that guitar and it seems he was confused also.

I don't believe you meant bad by it and I appreciate you attempting to help the new guy. I just think communication got away from the two of you and things got unnecessarily personal.

No hard feelings here toward either of you, btw

Re: Wide Post Two Point Trem...

For the record, I will admit that I enjoy being clever with my words, and that this is a problem for me, and that I like this problem. "I need to check myself before I wreck myself...but that's not fun."

In other words, when someone hijacks a thread and diss'es me in the process, the right answer is to just walk away, not have fun playing with hijackers.

And yes, that is EXACTLY how I saw that post: it was completely irrelevant because the answer was "don't upgrade your guitar because it's not good enough to upgrade; so go buy one with good factory parts." I'VE ALREADY GOT THOSE!!! And yes, I was pretty thorough about explaining the intent on this Gio. So, what I saw was someone spamming my thread with a picture that's already been posted on this forum, and disrespecting me in the process.

What's the term...??? "Flamed." I got flamed.

What's the right answer...??? When flamed, just ignore the insult. If it's worth commenting on, then contact a mod instead. The life you save may be your own.

Again, this is my fault. I was not compliant to the rules of the forum. My bad...

Re: Wide Post Two Point Trem...

FWIW, that was not my intention. If you took it that way, that’s your problem, not mine.
Sorry I tried to help...won’t happen again.

Re: Wide Post Two Point Trem...

Welp, it looks like it's down to either dropping in the original Floyd Rose "non-fine tuning" bridge, or else just going nuts and filling in the cavities and turning it into a hard tail with a Bigsby just to have something fun to do.

Thanks for the help finding the original F/R and the trems that spec out like that one!
