Wil this split the coils

I have a guitar with 2 buckers. If I solder the red and whiote wire where the neck pup should go will it split the coils in the middle position?

Thats not much to go on, but - if you solder the red and white wires of the neck pickup, to the place on the 3-way where the neck hot wire goes, along with the hot wire of the neck pickup, you'll always have the neck pickup in single-coil mode, whether the switch is in the middle position, or the neck-only position.

In other words, you'll be hard wiring the neck pickup to single-coil, or split, mode. Is that what you want.

(Editted out that last part that may have been incorrect.) ;)

Clarification. I have aguitar with 2 hums and a 3 way switch. I do not use the neckl so it is just there for looks. If I solder the white and red to the place where the neck would be soldered, would it split the bridge in the middle position?

I hope this is better. Been a long day.

thats still not clear enough, when you say "solder the white and the red to the place where the neck would be soldered" what do you mean? the hot lead from the neck?

Re: Wil this split the coils

Uh, do you you mean taking the white and red wires of the bridge pup and soldering those two to the tang on the 3 way switch where the neck pickups hot wire would usually be soldered?

BTW, where in KY are you from?

Re: Wil this split the coils

The answer is yes. Connecting the red/white to the neck pickup terminal on a 3 way switch will split the bridge HB in the middle position as well as the neck position. The neck pickup will be decoration because it wont be connected to anything.

Re: Wil this split the coils

I just noticed what you were asking here.
If you're not going to use the neck at all,
this will give you pretty good versatility with just
the bridge and a 3-way:

(It must be the "Alco" style 3-way, wired to the
opposite from normal terminals - the ones that don't
short in the middle.)

1. stud coil
2. full humbucker (middle)
3. adjustable coil

Just curious what do you mean by Stud coil and adjustable coil. Sorry just new to coil splitting.

Re: Wil this split the coils

the two coils of an SD humbucker have different pole pieces .. one of the coils has 6 stud pole pieces which are non adjustable ... the other has 6 screw pole pieces, which are adjustable

hope this helps

cheers,
