Will a 20 watt tube head and cab, cut it for gigs?

Re: Will a 20 watt tube head and cab, cut it for gigs?

I'm also looking at the Blackstar Series One. Both the S 100 watt and the 45 watt combo. I like the features especially the built in power ruduction dial to go down from 100 watts to 10 watts. Now that would fiit any situation.

These look fantastic on paper, then you go to look at the prices, and the wind falls right out of your sails. I'd rather take a JVM for that price.

Depends on the PA at the venue. IF they have a modern system and can give you a monitor mix there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to gig with a lower wattage rig.

Playing small to medium size gigs, as a second rig I would like to run a smaller head and 2x12 cab. Looking at the the Blackstar HT Venue series. The 20 watt head. What do you think? The band is mainly classic rock. I'm the only guitarist.

Take a 22W Deluxe Reverb and pair it with an Emi Swamp Thang loaded 2X12 (closed back) and see just how beautifull and cutting that rig sounds.

Then add some hot single coils, or med gain 'buckers - tone heaven i tell 'ya !

PS : i know nothing about the 20W Blackstar.
The lil 5watter gets a lot of love all over the net !

Good Luck
;)

I proved to myself last night that a 15 watt amp kills at a show with the right PA...without that I have had them get their asses handed to them at a loud enough band volume...I own an amp for any room, but if you exceed the limits of a 20 watter in terms of the room to PA ratio, you'll pay.

The big problem I found with the Series One was that it has a lot of tone shaping controls but they apply to all four footswitchable modes. From ultra clean to screaming high gain you have got to do a LOT of compromising. Didn't work for me at all and I think it's a very poor design.
