Will gibson 490T gold pickup covers fit on a Seymour Duncan?

Hi all! Hopefully someone has been through this exercise before. I have a 2006 Les Paul Custom all black with gold hardware. I recently purchased and installed a custom JB for the bridge and a full shred for the neck. I am now considering the idea of putting covers on these pickups to maintain the stock look.

Has anyone used Gibson covers on Seymour Duncans or added a cover in general? I don’t want to pull things apart if it’s not going to work but it looks as simple as a couple of solder points joining the cover to the base plate of the pickup. Am I missing anything here? Will the poll pieces line up? Do I need any padding under the cover or wax potting?

As part of this effort I will be using the gold pickup pole piece screws from the Gibson pickups in the JB and the Full shred to get the full effect of the stock look. I figure more so in the full shred that this will also have a slight effect on my tone. From some expert advice from the forum I figure it will make the full shred neck sound a little rounder which wouldn’t be a bad thing. I also hear the covers might take a tiny bit off the top end and warm things up a bit too. All desireable changes.

The "T" stands for treble, meaning bridge pickup, which has wider spacing. Unless the JB is trem-spaced, the poles probably won't line up. The screws are interchangeable though, and will work fine.

If you use high gain and volume, it is a good idea to either repot the pickup after installing the cover, or put some silicone on top of the pickup before putting the cover on. Otherwise it will likely squeal quite a bit.

All covers will take at least some of the top end off, some more than others.

No. Gibson and Duncan covers have different specs. They aren't interchangeable. Ideally, you should have ordered gold Duncans, but now your option is to buy aftermarket gold covers specifically made to fit Duncans, and also gold screw poles.

Put the stock pickups away, so you'll have them to restore the guitar to original.

You're right in part, but some are interchangeable. Gibby neck pickup covers or vintage style covers like 57 Classics will fit Duncan standard space pickups.

Ya in hindsite I should have ordered covers but I wanted to try the zebra look. I'm not exactly unhappy that I did but I'm now thinking about putting it back to a stock "look". This is also my first guitar that had covered pickups. I know it's like comparing apples and oranges comparing covered gibson pickups to uncovered seymour duncans. If my guess is right I like the warmth that the covers bring. If the covers do make a slight difference on the high end and add just a tiny bit of warmth my end result would be EXACTLY what I have been looking for.

I saw one place searching the internet but I can't remember the name of the site now. Are there places that sell kits that might include the covers, silicon or wax to do the job right? I'm not sure the 2006 Les Paul Customs will ever become that collectible but I can keep the stock pickups intact just in case.

The T and R pickups have different specs but, the covers from 57 and 57 classics work perfectly. I have no clue about the burstbuckers though.
