Will there ever be tone samples....

...of the C-5 on the Duncan site? I think it is helpful listening to the samples on the site, especially considering they are under consistent circumstances.

Any chance they will ever add the C-5?? I was really trying to hear some comparisons between the JB and C-5.

Yeah me too I just want to compare the tone of the C5 and JB. I have heard throug focks out here in ht e forum that the C5 is brighter than the JB. But a clip wld really help.

Absolutely! The SH-13 is still missing as well, together with some other models. They really should arrange that at Duncan... It s been missing since ages...

Re: Will there ever be tone samples....

If I remember correctly, all of those models were released after the clips were recorded. I think Evan mentioned that they weren't able to get the same guitar, amp, and player together all at once to record clips for these models. Personally, I don't think the clips are of much help. They're way too short and they all sound the same, even on really nice computer speakers. Maybe if I had the CD version I would be able to tell the difference. But just listening to them on a computer, I can't tell the difference from one pickup to the next.

I can't confirm that. For me the tone samples always were quite helpful. A/B-comparing to pickups with high quality HiFi speaker shows the differences. The choice was never wrong.
Admittedly I'm not very ambitious regarding tone. I never have an exact vision what I shall sound like - it only has to sound good - which probably would be with all SD PUs

I wld not agree with that. The Clips do sound alot diff if you listen to tehm closly. and on quite a few u dont even need to do that! It sure helped me select the JB from the Custom Custom, Custom and Distortion. And 59

Re: Will there ever be tone samples....

While I can certainly hear the differences more clearly when I listen on my nearfield monitors, I was always able to hear SOME differences on my PC's speakers. The samples ARE short and limited in dynamic scope, but I think they serve their purpose of comparison. To me, the trick isn't to listen for which one sounds the best, but for which one seems to display the characteristics that you're looking for. F'rinstance, after hearing the Distortion in the bridge position of a guitar and deciding that I wanted a particular change in the sound, the clips were able to allow me to listen specifically for that change. And the Custom clearly had it. It's not that the Custom sounded better with that material, through that amp, in those hands; it's that it had a bit more of what I was looking for for MY material, through MY amp, in MY hands.

As for the neglected models and the difficulty of adding new clips to the old batch, I can understand. In fact, were I involved with SD, I'd likely just wait until a few more models were released and just do the whole enormous affair over. Adding new clips to old in a piecemeal fashion months and years after the original recordings doesn't seem like it would offer as true a comparison anyway. Even with the same player, guitar, amp and recording equipment, there are a lot of variables. I say keep the old clips around for reference, but do an entirely new batch with all of the current lineup. It would be a large investment of both time and money, no doubt, but it's a dead useful service to provide the customers and it's the sort of thing that simply has to be updated periodically.

Re: Will there ever be tone samples....

I think that the original batch of clips are ok, but I've found the clips that forum members have submitted to be more helpful. There should be a few on the C-5 if you look thought the archives.
