Hello Jeff.....I've been using the Shure "Guitarist" UHF system for several years...I Like the fact that this particular system doesn't kill my tone..It's transparent,no drop outs,and always consistently works great for me...
I also like the AKG system where you plug the transmitter right into your guitar jack...This keeps the transmitter off your guitar strap or your pants etc....I think Samson makes the same style wireless,but you want to get the system that allows you to plug the transmitter into any type of guitar jack...I think with the Samson,you'd have to have to seperate transmitters for a strat vs a Tele to plug into your guitars....
The Shure system was pricey(I think around $300)but it's a great wireless and the Shure product is always great...I know others will chime in and I'd be very interested in seeing others opinions..
Here's some great advice Jeff....Try several wireless systems out,but be sure you A/B the wireless systems to your favorite guitar cord....Some wireless systems(especially the cheaper ones)do color your sound..I didn't find this to be the scenario at all for me with the Shure system I bought...

i heard rumours that the wireless systems that had the unit connected right to the guitar jack weakened after time and wouldn't stay in place. I dunno just rumours. I always liked the wireless systems that had the wireless pack attached to your guitar strap.

I don't have much experience with wireless instrument equipment, but Shure makes great wireless mics, so I figure their instrument equipment is good, too. As I'm sure you know, you want to make sure you check what frequency you're getting if someone else is using wireless equipment, too.

The one thing that always stopped me from buying a wireless is the inconsistency with my guitars. I have a schecter, strat, tele, and an ibanez. The strat jack is different from the rest. My ibanez has schaller straplocks. I would need to buy multiple packs for multiple guitars, and frankly I dont have that money.
My bassist bought a 100 dollar wireless (cant remember which one), and lets say he cant get it to work properly at all. With wireless systems, you definately get what you pay for

Try out a few different items, as STRATDELUXER97 suggested. I find that most of the cheaper brands tend to colour the tone, so I dont bother myself.

i think it might be the airline. Its the one with the little wireless transmitter attached right on the 1/4 in jack.
You can also get wireless systems where you plug the jack in your guitar then there is about a foot and half cord that plugs into a transmitter that is clipped on your strap or your belt. wherever.

I also have the Shure UHF Guitarist ....it's really great. Doesn't kill your tone, and is completely dependable.
If you cant afford multiple transmitters for each of your guitars, it's actually very quick to switch if you just keep the transmitter in your back pocket.
Just switch it to mute, unplug from your guitar, switch guitars and plug right back in.
I've heard those "bug" style systems tend to break easily and wreaks havoc on your tone. You definitely get what you pay for.

I´m looking for a new one as well...is the Guitarist UHF a true diversity system? how´s the range? Street pirce? What do extra trannies cost? Receiver rackable?
I don´t trust those "guitar Bug" style systems at all, I´m pretty sure I´d manage to lose them during a gig.... I need something I can duct-tape to a strap

I'm guessing judging from the extra posts on this Jeff,that the Shure "Guitarist" is the way to go..I already did the homework when I bought mine and listened to several wireless systems. This was the one that didn't screw with my tone and it's worked great since day one...
I'm sure you'd trust my ears by now brother! The Shure product is a guarantee of quality also,and yes,you do get what you pay for brother! I don't always go wireless,but when I do,I want it to work everytime for me!

I have the Samson Wireless....where you plug the little transmitter into your guitar, no body pack. They do make different transmitters for strat plug in vs tele or LP. Here's what I do. The system I bought came with just the jack to fit a strat, but it still works just fine with my LP's and other guitars, it doesn't lay flat to the body on those type guitars, but works perfectly. It's so small that this makes no difference, and is still much, much smaller than any body pack. Body packs are what kept me from buying a wireless in the first place.
My only gripe is that I keep forgetting to turn the little bugger off when I'm done, so I keep blowing thru AAA batteries. Other than that, it works great, and I've tried it at a range exceeding 100ft, and it still works.

You're right...Cables are still the way to go...I only use the wireless dependent on where we play and my mood,but most of the time,I still use a great quality cable.. :dance:

I had the Samsons Airline a few years back and I ended up ditching it. I bought a 21' Monster Prolink Studio Pro 1000. The Airline wireless killed my tone, and that was before I knew any better. All I knew was that it was way fuzzy. The Monster cable was the way to go. The cable cost about $150 but was well worth the money. I've been wanting a wireless for a while but don't really have a need for it and the ones that are worth it are a few hundred dollars.

Wireless systems are great for bigger venues, or multi-band gigs, but I try and stick to cables. That said, it's fun to stand next to someone in the queue for the bar, with them not realising that you're making the racket coming from the stage!
