Wireless

I'd really appreciate hearing anyone's experience, recommendations or comparisons.
Cables vs Wireless? Sound difference or hard to notice unless you're the player. Feel difference as the player? (vs cables)

Never had or even played through a wireless setup, but I'm constantly seeing new brands/models claiming awesomeness for not a lot of $.
Playing "off-the-chain" unplugged has always felt so liberating to me, it would be great to feel like that while being all connected.

Also we were just talking on LPB's thread "head-shelf for pedals" about fiddling with pedals on the floor/board while playing, well the main reason I hate doing that is the cable, I mean it's always in the way if you sit down or even take a knee. You can easily bend the internals of the output jack if you're always jamming the cable and it's prying sideways. Not a huge deal really, but still it's just another cool thing about wireless that you can sit, lay, do back-flips, whatever!

Seeing these recently is what sparked my interest.

Re: Wireless

I got the Nady dual system for around $100
It has an audible pop from time to time
It may be a loose connection somewhere

It works great from line of sight and a few feet away
Not so much at a distance with objects between

Re: Wireless

I bought one of these a couple years ago and it seems like it was around $100.

So far so good. My only complaint would be that the clip keeps popping off, but I finally just gave up and started sliding the transmitter into my pocket. When I got it, I also bought some rechargeable AA batteries and a charger and that ended up being a great set up. Battery life is good… One AA battery will easily get me through a four hour gig, but it’s still nice to have the rechargeables and a couple of backups ready just in case.

In terms of sound, I will admit that I’m not terribly picky about tiny nuances… So I haven’t noticed any difference in sound between using the wireless or a cable. That being said, it does have an output level control, so you can actually turn your signal up or down into the rest of your rig from the receiver unit which is kind of cool.

I have used it successfully in a crowded bar on the dance floor playing away from the rest of the band without any problems and have gotten as far away as about 50 feet without having a drop out. I’m pretty sure that it’s rated for further than that, but I have never felt the need to go any further.

Re: Wireless

I fiddled with an older audio technica uit a few years back. It's certainly nice to be able to move around without a cable in the way, but I did notice that I had a significant loss in low end response from my rig. Enough that I went back to cables and have not looked into wireless since. Maybe the technology has advanced sine then, but I'm fairly ignorant on the subject.

Re: Wireless

I have 2 line 6 relay g50 systems, ones a stomp box style and ones a half rack version.

They sound really good as long as you pick a channel free from to much interference. I did have some issues with the cable jack and the battery door, but the jack has been updated to a better one and parts are readily available cheap.

I notice a bit of a boost over cables with the wireless, especially on lower output pickups, but some of that may just be the extra buffer it adds. The sounds to me are really close in terms of signal, no real frequency cut but there is some gating as notes fade depending on how you set it.

The only other thing is it will eat through batteries in a few hours and it doesn’t like rechargeables as they are slightly bigger and will bend the contacts.

I use a regular cable for most long practices and then I will use the wireless for playing out. It makes switching out guitars cake when you have multiple transmitters ready to go.

The line 6 relay G70 is supposed to be improved even more, better transmitter, hidden antennas, a few other things. If they made a rack version I would buy 2.

Re: Wireless

This is what I have....it’s pricy but it’s hands down the best unit I’ve ever used. Plus, no annoying box to set up/break down every gig. It has a USB rechargeable battery and a charge lasts weeks. Obviously less if you play daily for extended periods. I use this particular setup for 3-4 hours a week.

Still can't get it to work. Keeps showing me some fkn picks I bought.

Re: Wireless

Holy Cow, Batman!!! That is slick. You can't get me to plug in anything anymore. Maybe by the time they get the right amp, I'll have the right money. Means dropping out of Aceman's party, but, there's a time for everything. Man I love margaritas.

That is pretty funny. (not you, Ace) . . . I wouldn't belong to a club that would have me as a member. You crack me up. Pedals. My life.
hahahahahaha!
