Would this wire work for internal guiar wiring?

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

That'll work. I use a 20 gauge, shielded, myself. It might be a little bit big, but it works.

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

Pretty much any wire will do. I have been known to use Radio Shack jumper wire myself on occasion.

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

I use old 20 gauge speaker wire
thats lying on the floor under the table

Ethernet cable works, a bit stiff tho

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

standard cable is going to be anything between 20-26awg braided copper. i just use cheap 22awg braided copper from radioshack myself, it's the right balance between size and flexibility for wiring up a guitar.

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

thnx for the info guys,
i bought some 20 gauge wire from a nearby hardware shop,
cheap too

i guess i'll be rewiring my bro's strat this week :D

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

Any wire that's 18-22 guage and conducts electicity will work. Some are easier to work with than others. I like braided, cloth-covered traditional wire.

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

How about for "extending" the wires of the pickups?

I have a couple of Duncan pickups whose wires were cut way too short for where I'm going to them now.

IIRC, those are 26awg braided, but i could be wrong. imo the best thing to do would be to get some extra 4 conductor wire and replace it.

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

re-wired up my bro's strat today
from dead and silent ,now alive and kicking!

thnx for the help guys
now to save up and modify this baby :D

Re: Wires for guitar wiring?

expensive stuff. and i don't know if i need 25 feet of it :(

i think i need to visit the electronics/electrical retailer near the office see if they have 26awg (22awg?) shielded wires.

crap, i didn't even look at that:doh:
i used to buy it from wymore for $1.25 a ft., but he's closing shop.
