Wires for pickups

I recently bought some 22 gauge wire that I was going to use to set up a new pickup system. When I went to strip the wire I noticed it was just a solid copper wire, not the stranded type. The current setup from factory has the stranded copper wires. Will the solid wire work? Which one works better? Thanks.

Re: Wires for pickups

the solid will work, the stranded is easier to use. i havent a/b'd solid vs stranded to see what the tonal differences are but i would think they would be pretty tiny in a guitar.

the current in a guitar is so tiny almost any wire will work fine. the wire on a pup is the size of a human hair and it goes thru that before it gets to whatever wire comes out the pup

TS2..... Just be careful when working with solid wire as it tends to break if you bend it too often (especially "sharp" bends).

If the wire happens to break (under the insulation), it can be frustrating to trace. You will need to test for continuity to confirm this, and it might be intermittant if the wire is "making" and "breaking" contact because you are moving it when testing.

Enjoy the new pickups.
