OK, had some time with this project today.

Seems my effects pedal needs to see the 10k resistor between the hot and ground, not in series with either the hot or the ground. Wiring it this way appears to have worked. I wired the resistor across the jack where the cable connects to the pedal, instead of on the switch or on the pedal. I had easy access and there was plenty of room for the resistor.

It is wired in parallel with the switch, not sure "between" is the right word, at least if you are trying to explain to someone else how to do it. What happens is when the switch is open, no signal can go through the switch so it has to go through the 10K resistor. When the switch is closed, the signal sees a 0 ohm path and essentially ignores the resistor.

Right, in parallel, not series. This makes sense now that I think about the theory behind it. It takes awhile. But I couldn't figure out how it would have worked with how I had it before.
But honestly, a simple on/off footswitch should have been programmed to work in the software.

Looked up the manual, those jacks seem to be only set up for expression pedals, so they want to see a specific maximum resistance, in this case 10K, so they are probably reading the voltage or current with an A/D converter. Doesn't know what to do when it doesn't see anything. Probably has something to do with being able to be either an exp pedal in, or be a control "out". Maybe a MIDI Mouse or something if you want to add some more control?

Yeah, me too.
I now have an extra switch I can use to control effects. BTW, the specific exp pedal I modded was this one.



The resistor is wired just behind the SWITCH jack. That was easy to get to- 2 screws on the bottom and that whole plate detaches. It will be easy to go back to stock, too. And I don't have to use a special cable.
