wiring an electric jazz bass style

I was wondering if this would work well on a guitar. I know jazz basses use this setup, and aren't those pickups wired in parallel?

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=std_jazz_bass

so using this diagram could I wire up a guitar with 2 pickups (one humbucker, one humbucker sized P-90, so the wire colours would be different) and have it sound the same as a normal guitar with a switch, and just use the volume controls for pickup selection? Or would I still get a signal from the other pickup even with the volume all the way off?

Re: wiring an electric jazz bass style

it should be fine. wiring in a kill switch might be handy if you play loud and with a fair dose of gain;that way you can quickly switch off the signal, rather than having 2 roll down not one, but two volume pots!
or you may also want to try out a blend pot; that way you could blend the pickups with one knob and still have a master volume.....although 2 individual volume controls will allow for finer adjustments !
just make sure you choose appropriate pot values for each pickup

thanks for the reply, I think I will go the 2 volume route, just for something a little different...right now this guitar only has a 2 way switch, and a new pot is much cheaper and easier to wire than a 3 way switch

Consider using a blend pot, also. It'll achieve the same thing, but be much easier to use if you're performing.
