Wiring an import 5 way switch

Re: Wiring an import 5 way switch

I just noticed this: "If your neck and middle pickups are fender you need to reverse the green and black wires on the seymour duncan". Well, I initially wired it up with black as hot and green as ground, which was incorrect so I switched them. Now green is running to the bridge position on the switch and black is grounded. The single coils are original peavey single coils I think, but there is a neck in the neck and a bridge in the middle.

just thought I drop some more information and clues. Does anyone want to try and unravel this?

Day 4.

Still no human contact. The situation is getting desperate. Today I wired and rewired and cleaned stuff up. Seconded guessed the output jack, the switch, tried just about everything. I even took the tape off the pickup and inspected it thoroughly. My soldering iron has started talking to me, his name is Weller. Weller and I are just going to hold up for the night and send out more distress signals tomorrow. Happy New Year.

P.S. In the event that I do not make it through this pickguard wiring, please keep this thread alive so that others can learn from my decent into madness.

Day 5.

I sent an email to GFS just for the hell of it. Maybe they'll be able to offer up some good advice.

Day 6.

I think I forgot to mention that the bridge single coil mode sounds weird, like it is out of phase. Bridge + middle definitely sounds out of phase. That is all for today. I'll come up with something else to keep this thread alive tomorrow.

Woohoo! I've made contact. Not helpful contact, but another human being nonetheless. Good luck with your project Liam, but this is the wrong thread if you're looking for a response.

Re: Wiring an import 5 way switch

Lil Killer officially not working. I re-did the red and white wires and taped 'em off, wired directly to the jack, the sound is nothing close to humbucking. I'm going to get my hands on a multimeter to be sure. I decided to just wire up all the stock pickups. To add insult to injury the black covers I ordered on ebay, only 2 of 3 actually fit the pickups. Damn it! I guess I'll have to go all white. I will eventually wire in another tone pot. On the plus side, this is a sweet guitar. The neck is amazing, nice and worn in, almost an unfinished feel. The tone with these pups is not bad either, no icepick at all and I'm using a 500k tone pot with ceramic pickups.

Frank, as messed up as it seems.

That strat, with 2 blacks, one white, a missing control, the stickers, etc., is one of the COOLEST looking strat-styles I have seen in YEARS. Looks like a frankenstrat, but done in the truest sense. Why not though just put in: 2 duncan stacks for the n and m, and a hotrails bridge if you want what you're looking for?

This is my friend's guitar actually. It's got 15 years worth of his personality on it (much more on the back). I told him I would fix it for free so I can't really spend much money on it. I bought the Lil Killer for my own amusement just to test it out bc I've never used a rail pup like that, too bad it didn't work out. I won't be putting any more money into it, but might add another tone knob and give him the option to change the pup covers/knobs to white.

He is no guitar hero, actually not really a guitar player at all. So I assure you he has no idea what a frankenstrat is, this sticker is just a coincidence
